Absalom RPG (Flash 5)

Yes, an honest-to-goodness RPG *can* be developed from within Flash. And here it is. Follow the fortunes of Emma, the Nordin royal guard!

This game requires Flash 5 to play.

Mar 31, 2002: After finishing this, and Absalom 2, why not move on to the new 'Absalom Dungeon'?

RPG flash. Graphics are very simple, and they can use more attention to detail. Gameplay is average. There should be a good animation when you kill an enemy. Then worst feature is that there is no way to save, and that if you die you go back to the beginning. Create a way to save your progress.

This was cool

So this was pretty cool I really like the element of this game with the story element and such you really pushed some ideas here and made it fun and you can see some good work went through this.

The first good RPG on Newgrounds, has quite the length to it, didn't finish it quite yet, but when I do I'll edit this review. Overall I thought the moves each having a unique strategy to them was really cool, and where the art lacked the game filled in. It seems there is a 2nd and dungeon version of this, can't wait to try them out.

Edit: So I finally finished it and only have one problem, there are no save states whatsoever. Now if this were longer than two dungeons I would take off a star for it, but it's not too hard to get over it. Even still having to restart every time is a little problematic. Ultimately replaying it taught me a few new things about the game play, and I found the exchanging cards to get a better build to be rather interesting. If this were full blown, getting the "best cards" would definitely be something everyone farmed for. Assuming a full rpg I'd probably make it so you had to spend gold to get them to change. The story was surprisingly there, a lot of games at the time didn't really try, but I feel that this one (although not the best) tried to develop the characters.

Overall I really loved it, I'm usually not a grindy guy, but each level up really felt like it was moving the game. Hope you're still making games Kinsman.

Its Cool But Just Need More Work i Give 4 Stars

5/5, 10/10

I don't understand how some people can give it a low score - this game is just a part of history and should be respected, in my opinion. I'm pretty sure it's one of the first - if not first! - truly playable RPGs in Flash. Not to mention the really great combat system, based on bonuses from cards. Even if it was worse, I'd probably still give it same score. Bravo!

As for tips - try to get as many cards with extra dices (eg. hearts for Emma) and don't be afraid to go for some defence and accuracy on bosses. It should make playing a bit easier.
