Author Comments

I've copy pasted the Finnish Epic "Kalevala" and made a game around it. Jump into a checkpoint for a new verse or section or whatever.

If you don't understand this "game" that's fine, I don't expect you to. Just run along and play a physics puzzle or something.

I'm not in the mood for stupid internet discussions, if you feel you have to comment make sure it's a nice comment telling me how great the game is. If it's criticism you can just keep that to yourself; I seriously doubt you can tell me something I don't already know about a game I made.

My thanks go out to the newgrounds audio people who put their music on the site for me to use, you guys are way talented, cheers.

edit: so the visualizer is acting up, I'm going to look into that later.

cool

Thanks for including one of my tracks in this! This game is pretty addicting and is not that easy. I not only want to get to the next part to feel like i can beat it but i also want to see the next part of the poem. really cool idea and i'm glad i stumbled upon this. I also really enjoy the graphic colors, very appealing!

KimboRambo responds:

Awesome, I'm glad you liked it.

This is not even a game

And why would you possibly use the English version of Kalevala? The original poetry is completely lost in this version, as Finnish phonology is completely different. Ja kyllä, olen suomalainen. Vaka vanha Väinämöinen ja niin edelleen :)

KimboRambo responds:

Yeah, I don't speak Finnish.

Not really special but it works well

I dunno, i find it hard to concentrate on reading when im doing jumping. Also, its easy to do "speed-runs" by clicking all the time while scrolling right as much as possible.

Kind of fun, but as a storyytelling device... im not sure.

KimboRambo responds:

I know all this. The reason I kept "speed run" is so that you can move between verses more easily. Like if you missed a part of need to catch up to where you were before.

Even if you didn't like it, at least you recognize that it's a storytelling device and not a game in the classical sense. Thanks for the review.

Average

Eh, the game was pretty average in all aspects. The content of the verses was more interesting than the gameplay, itself.

But my goodness...what a horrible attitude you have, given your author commentary.

KimboRambo responds:

Yeah, I kind of do. I posted this on kongregate yesterday and everybody hated it. So I figured if you're gonna hate you can just go somewhere else you know.

I'm not really an asshole, promise :)

I've got to say..

Really unique story,
The game itself is really easy, but to get the in-depth feel for this, you gotta slow down and actually read the text.
Graphics are rather nice and simple,
Anyways, 5/5 10/10 in my opinion.

KimboRambo responds:

Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
