A How to of Preloaders

I have presented a preloader tutorial. I couldn't get any screen shots, but I tried to be as descriptive as possible. I made sure to explain even the action script. I hope it can make its way into the Tutorials section.

Enjoy!

Thanks :)

I've really wanted to stop using Newgrounds preloaders for a while now, and this helped me to stop using them. I know NG preloaders are easy to use and you're free to edit them, but they take up more space of your flash(which would you rather use, over 45 movieclips, or 1 mc?), and I just wanted to stop using them. Thanks for the tut :D The text wasn't hard for me to read, but that might just be because I have contacts :0 I give you a 9 and a 5 score-wise :)

^^Good Points^^
This is definitely a nice looking tutorial. The blue theme looks really nice. Aside from the nice color scheme, I did like your preloader and how it loaded everything separately. I've never seen that done before.

^^Needs Improving^^
The text really kills this one. The text is kind of small, which normally isn't a problem, but you picked a font that is pretty hard to read when it is small. Definitely should pick a different font, or at least cut down on the amount of words and make the text bigger.

knuxrouge responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I will change the font next time.

I liked your prealoader ^^.

Well, the main menu looks quite nice, but you should choose a darker colour for the text, as it is quite hard to read. It's a good thing that the text turns black when one hovers the mouse over it.

It's nice that you provided us with a mute button, as it can be quite annoying to listen to the same songs over and over again. But why did the first song always starts again whenever I click the "next" button, even though I turned it off the previous frame? You should try to fix that.

The layout of this tutorial is quite good. However, it would be a good idea if you'd name the single "steps", so that it will be easier to go to the chapter one was looking for. "Step 1, Step2, etc." aren't that helpful when looking for information about a specific theme.

What hurts this tutorial the most is the small text. It's really hard to read in combination with the font you chose. So either add an easier to read font or make the text bigger.

knuxrouge responds:

I see yor point. I wanted the Step selcectio to Sync with the step, so on every individual step the song would start. I am not an expert on that subject, so it was a bit makeshift. I put the tutorial under the pretense that you watched it beofre so if you were to select form a scene, then you would like to go to a specific step.
I will fix the text next time.
Thanks for your review.

Great!

Well there are tons of preloader tutorials already . . . but one more can't hurt. ^_^ The interface is easy, the instructions are good and I would learn how to make my own preloader in know time after watching this if I didn't know already, heh. Nice background music as well. Keep up the good work!
