Whilst I love the redesign, I've got a sinking suspicion that the art portal layout will shed light on the way people vote, which kinda disheartens me.

I'm talking about the amount of Mature art in the Popular and Best Sections, especially the ones showing T&A.
And I'm sure High Ranking classics is gonna be static. AlvinHew on the top row, JohnnyUtah on the bottom.

I think we need some quality submissions to get this stuff moving.

I'm afraid that it's the same issue that happened with the sample miniatures of Dumping Grounds. png's may get all sorts or artifacts and shit, and if you use transparency, the results may be TERRIBLE.
It'd be advisable not to post .png's on the forum... at least for the moment.

Late to the show but I wanted to agree with the said things about the art portal. I kinda like this new layout, I almost wish I just wasn't here for the previous one so it wouldn't have to have me adjusting.

@ pngs: the problems with my pic were probably due to it being larger than 200 kb. (according to tom) the upside of this is no more resaving jpegs at lower quality to fit the limit.

1) Expand Latest Art by one row?

2) Filter all remaining categories to only show E-T rated content. I gotta admit the amount of boobs changes the vibe... I always go to the Art Portal to see a selection of awesome art, so I don't like people coming and thinking it's just a place for boobs.

3) Best Art this Year needs adjustment to the sort algorithm. We are weighting things by total votes so brand new submissions can't dominate out the gate, but in this case the views on Madness might bring TOO much weight, although it's a great piece.

4) Perhaps high ranking classics should be a random assortment of the top 100-200. This could be true for all Portals.

While this seems like a good Idea, you really can't go by that. This brings me back to what I heard you mention in one of your earlier posts, we should be allowed only one vote per person, per submission, makes things fair.

In my opinion, you should even consider two more rows. Average artists hardly got more than 20 votes when it showed the 24 latest art pieces. It will probably decrease even further now. But then again people see the whole page, when they check "More new art". I think one more row is a good idea in any case. :)

Maybe the random assortment thingy you suggested for the classics section could solve this problem to some degree already. You could try that for a month or so and turn on the filter if it does not do the job.

The total votes being considered is a nice feature to compensate for brand new submissions. But contest entries for example get more views and votes at an average than most other stuff, so there is always room for some unbalances. Same here with the random assortment, it could help to sort out some issues.

I think that's a good idea and could maybe be used for the other sections too. Probably not 100-200, but a lower number.

Mm, then it skips out stuff like this which fits in nicely to the M category. And this is barely M, yet Shad's focused the thumbnail on the knockers. I don't think there's much you can do here.

Tough problem. I don't know how the algorithm works, and I like the idea of weighting things by number of votes.
How about higher scores takes precedence, and there's a limit to how numerous voted submission affect the scores. Say:
S(n,s) = C * log_e(n) * s^2
where S is the weighted score, C is a coefficient, n is the number of votes and s is the score provided by the voters.

Yes, this would encourage people to not rely on T&A for views and high scores.

I think a combo of reviews, views, votes, and score should be taken into account. Not really sure how to stop total dominance or exploits in this one though.

That does seem a little unfair on the artists. Say someone drew a really good pair of boobs, perfectly sculpted and all, and were excluded from it simply because... yeah that arguments weak and all the tits up there at the moment are crappy anime ones.

Maybe flagging an image for simply being crappy anime tits might be a better idea, in case the picture is M with no tits.

I brought this up when the art portal was first introduced and I'll bring it up again cause I still think it's a good idea. Why not have a monthly or 2-weekly gallery showcasing a number of good old and new pics in a certain theme. It'd be up to moderators to select these pieces. That way you get the opportunity to give older/unnoticed stuff some exposure, and the viewer gets to see an interesting collection of work that actually changes more often than every year. Besides; it seems a bit redundant to have best of the year AND best of all time...
