Names only help if they are memorable. That way people remember you. It does not mean that your posts have quality, but it does mean people will remember you with ease. Having a name with number on it is something I would not recommend, since people hardly remember numbers, unless they are in sequence, like Kickme123 (now known as TheMaster). Also names after games or characters from movies/anything is bad. People will remember you... as the unoriginal prick you are.
Most importantly try that your name reflects who you are, even in the slightest possible way. If it takes you more than 12 seconds to come up with a name, try again.

Not at all. There are so many more aspects to NG than just the usernames.
Maybe so, but most NG users/spammers automatically post "EPIC WIN @ UR USERNAME" whenever someone has a username with "cock" in it. There are some exceptions, but they have to be memorable in other ways then the BBS (mostly, anyway). I'm thinking of Bigfoot3290 A.K.A. Jeremy Simms.
