Quick announcement: Jazza has posted news and video of his upcoming Paladin game!
Moving along, it is time to announce the winners of our Halloween 2007 competition!
Picking winners for the contests is always a difficult process, in terms of not showing a bias towards any number of factors. There are episodes of established series, such as Blockhead and Edible Castle. There are avant-garde visual styles (is that a good way to describe them?), such as Halloween Adventure Entry and Spooky Scary Skeletons. Some submissions totally nail the creepy and violent nature of Halloween, such as 'never ending nightmare' and Peter. Others have pop appeal, such as Bowser's Kingdom and Oh Oh Oh Sexy Vampire. Then there are submissions that weren't authored in Flash, such as the 3D Slaughterween and the drawn and scanned Dawn of Sock.
With almost 300 entries, it was impossible to cut things off at ten winners. I decided to move Dawn of Sock and Slaughterween into their own "Alternative Media" category, since they aren't traditional Flash animations. This doesn't mean I will always be segregating based on format, since art is art for the most part. Fart. Let's just get this over with.
Halloween Winners:
1. Blockhead Ghostmas
2. Halloween Adventure Entry
3. The Spirit of Halloween 2
4. Spooky Scary Skeletons
5. 13 Halloween Tips
6. Lemon Demon's "Bad Idea"
7. Edible Castle #3
8. Hallogasm
9. EW Halloween Special
10. Oh Oh Oh Sexy Vampire
Alternative Media Awards ($250 each):
1. Dawn of Sock
2. Slaughterween
Winners should PM Bob with the following info:</p>
- Your name, for the check.
- Your mailing address (write it out clearly and include your country!)
- Your t-shirt size and preference. Pick anything from the store and make sure your size is in stock!
Additionally, notorious sent me a list of his own picks, which I thought were worthy of posting as a second opinion on the best of our Halloween competition (there is some overlap with the official winners):
1. Halloween Adventure Entry
2. Spooky Scary Skeletons
3. 'never ending nightmare'
4. Employee of the Month
5. Peter
6. Nobodies
7. Pataskitz
8. Woodpumpkin
9. Legend of Sleep Hologram
10. Halloween 07 Flash Short
Note - Employee of the Month and Nobodies were not official contest entries. I'm a big fan of Peter (as well as the rest of these choices), but alas, we could only stray so much from the user voting without letting a lot of people down.
I should also note that Lethal Injection, by notorious, was a top contender as well!
And Bowser's Kingdom was another excellent entry, but due to it being based on an established franchise (Mario), I decided to favor the other submissions. Be sure to check it out nonetheless!
