I only use Paint, and IrfanView, both free programs, one automatically on all computers that use Windows.

Better programs than what Johnny mentioned are Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Fireworks.

I used Krita for my current one, but for other sigs I've used photoshop, paint shop pro and gimp.

Try GIMP it's free, then worry about forking out the money for photoshop if you don't like it.

MS Paint is a very good idea. Anotehr good idea would be to find a picture on Google Images, copy/paste it to paint, then stretch it out, then upload it! That's how I got mine.

I see you already got one, though, but for future reference there's some advice.

Or you can google "Banner generator" Alot of those will give you a base to start with.
