Level 12.

Response to Wi/Ht? level up! Lounge 2010-08-22 00:21:20

Thanks for voting, sushi13! Your experience has been automatically deposited!

With that vote, you now have 8,700 experience points. You need 0 more to get to Level 29. The next Grounds Gold day begins in 23 hours, 41 minutes, and 40 seconds.

The more experience points you have, combined with BLAM and PROTECTION points, the more your vote is worth!

Damn I hate this level icon and I'm stuck with it for the next 2 months. Lucky that the Level 30 icon is probably my favorite of them all so it'll make up for this.

anyway to the above poster, congratulations! The Sword is the coolest!

We call it "music bone", I think this description fits it best: Whenever you bump it, you have a whole band playing some shitty tune in your arm.
More like an annoying ringtone.

But ring tones are more like "rriiiiinnggg... *pause* rriiiiinnnnggg... *pause*" and so on. While if you bump that particular bone it's more like "*hummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm*" all the way until it gets better, without pauses.

I think I've said that before, but I have to finish my studies until 2012. And I don't even know if that includes my diploma thesis or if I get some extra time for that... ^^
Thesis? Well I heard you generally have to finish that at the end of the summer, or at least that's what they have to do here. But I know a lot of people are waiting and searching for months before they finally get their thesis ideas approved.

I still haven't thought about what I should do for my thesis.

Here even the Bachelor students don't like the bachelor. And I can see why: It's way too much stuff to do in a too short amount of time. Plus, they HAVE to be in all the lectures because they all have a compolsory attendance. Very annoying.
Heh, luckily I don't have a compulsory attendance for lectures. If so, I might have quit my studies some time ago cause listening to all those boring ass lectures that cover 10 lines of text in 2 hours would've driven me crazy.

Or lectures that cover three whole books in 10 minutes. Those are shitty as well.

Unpossible. Unless we'll call ourselves "Scheepskamelen".
Sheep camels?

No, google images suggests that it has something to do with ships, not sheeps.
Brilliant sketch by one of Hollands finest comedian groups. I don't think you can follow it though.

Nope. I could only understand a few words here and there.
But once again I am amazed how any dutch person can say "german is a hard language" while dutch sounds much harder (at least to me ^^).

I just bet you would've done that as a German guy.

http://www.forvo.com/word/swaffelen/

Now that I heard the correct pronunciation, it is pretty close to a sch at the beginning actually =/
People here do both the "schwaf" and the "swaf", so I guess there's no real "correct" pronounciation.
Maybe not. It doesn't really sound like a dutch word anyway, more like something people from Aruba brought over.

Until now I didn't even know that a place called "Aruba" even exists. XD

Yep, like the name Achmed contains the ggg sound. In Spanish the J is also quite similar to ggg but I can't think of any other languages.
Scots and gaelic, maybe. And welsh of course. The "LL" is a similar sound.
The LL? Lol.

Yep. You can see it in names like "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwll llantysiliogogogoch" (I bet NG puts some spaces in there). XD

Interesting - I tend to go very Death Metal when that happens at the moment.
If it continues to be like this, you might want to see a doctor. But maybe your bone is just oversensitive at the moment.
I haven't nudged it for months and I have no need for the doctor in this respect. Murphy's first law states that I will knock it over the next few days, which would be about right.

It sure is. I couldn't get over how epic the intro was when I first heard it. I seem to be noticing a trend with this year's albums starting off with awesome intros. First Overkill's Ironbound with The Green and Black, then Blind Guardian's At the Edge of Time with Sacred Worlds and now Iron Maiden's The Final Frontier with Satellite 15.

Yes, the intro of Final Frontier is great as well, but not as great as At The Edge of Time's intro.

While we're on the subject of those two albums, Helloween's Metal Jukebox has silly tracks and should have had more METAL songs while Garage Inc. I'll pick up at some point.

Garage Inc. is great. No matter if it's a real album or not. ^^

It's either that or actually find a monitor that won't explode from seeing epically awesome stuff.
Maybe the company which build it can release some sort of firmware update to prevent monitors from exploding.
They have to make a specific one for you since it seems you're the only one getting monitors exploded. :P

Maybe others have this problem as well, but they couldn't report it yet because they didn't have a spare monitor.
Or others just don't look at such awesome things I (have to) look at.

Hm, that's odd to see them in the morning. The only time I ever saw a cross country meet was after school during my football practice. Part of their course was to run around our practice field. The other part was a mile hike up a mountain. :P

I do my cardio in the morning because it's cooler and it doesn't interfere with my schedule. Why am I saying this, everyone runs in the morning. Nothing beats a morning run.

It just depends how they are with the rest of the site. I heard they might take another 12 months to finish it but it'll all be worth it and I don't mind making icons as long as I can. As long as the others are hard at work as well and will get all the icons done eventually, I'm good.

Do you know what the scope of the redesign is? I've always assume that it was just more geared to the Portals (Flash, Art, Audio and Lit) and not inclusive to the BBS. Do you know if it's everything?

Ah, I might have to watch it then. And not just on DVD...

Well I went to see it at the cinema yesterday. I'd say the movie is not as awesome as the cast makes it seem to be, but you still get what you pay for. Which is long action scenes, random explosions and a funny joke here and there.

Still, you're probably not missing much if you decide not to go and see it.

I would've expected Jason Statham would do well (actually he was my only hope that this movie would actually turn out to be good, instead of a B movie action flick thing), but I've heard nothing of him.
The only thing I know Statham for is knobbing Kelly Brook a few years back.

You need to go watch Snatch. then. Seriously, it's a brilliant movie with Jason Statham. It also features Brad Pitt (as a boxing pikey), Vinnie Jones and some other British bastards.

I think you will also like Crank.

Too bad Jean Claude van Damme passed for The Expandables. He could've saved the movie! (well, I heard he is playing in some decent movies lately)
Yeah, like this movie could have been saved by a man like Van Damme.

I'm convinced he could have!

No not really, although this movie might have worked better with B actors.

In any case, this needs to be redone because this idea is just too awesome. Next time they gotta bring in guys like Vinnie Jones and Clint Eastwood as well. And let it be written by Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarentino.

Yes. I think I have almost convinced my gf to make an account.
Almost? Sounds like you didn't try hard enough to get her on here. :P

I tried hard, but it shouldn't feel like I'm forcing her. Anyway, she seems interested in a lot of games people upload here and she might like to collect medals. She's a bit intimidated by the forum though, cause people post so many sexual/edgy/weird topics in the general forum.

But that takes aaaaages. Unless I do the 5 minute speedrun, but I can't do that long jump trick :(

But I got better things to do! My to-do list is probably longer than my list of tracks in I-tunes at the moment.

I had one for a while, but it actually belonged to some friends of mine. They didn't play that much anymore though and it stood in their way, so I took it from them for a couple of months.
So that's how you were able to play those Wii games you said you played.

Yep! It was only Mariokart, Brawl and Wii Sports though. Oh and Wii Play (which SUUUUUCKS).

Last week I also played Guitar Hero for the first time.

Anyway, I guess I could do that, but meh... I don't know, I think I enjoy classic games more. Somehow I got the feeling that they don't make that many platformer/adventure games anymore, which is my favorite genre.
Besides Mario, platformers aren't doing very well these days. There are good indie platformers out there but the genre as a whole isn't dominating the gaming industry like it used to.

Nope which is too bad. It was at its prime during the N64 and Playstation era, but it sort of died when Rare moved to Microsoft. I wouldn't say that that's the only thing that caused it, but I think it did play a big role.

Again, imagine all the awesome stuff you could instead in that amount of time.
Yeah, like making icons and helping out for the future of Newgrounds.

Yes, or... doing things you put on your to-do list. Like jumping a burning motorcycle through a hoop made of black mamba's. Stuff like that.

Oh and she will! I bet she's secretly got an eye on Coop and is pulling that old 'make him jealous by dating his friend' trick.
She did have some interest in Slappy a while ago but I made sure she only had one true love which was me.

You mean SlapHappy? Well just as easy as she turned her back to Slappy, she can turn her back to you.

Damn. Oh well, we're just gonna take over the audio portal fair and square then. By being as epic as Queen!
If that's even possible.

Yeah, I don't know if Coop will be as good as a frontman as Freddy Mercury was.

Then we'll take over the hitcharts in the UK and USA, kicking those attention whores like Lady GaGa and Justin Beiber out.
Finally we can do something about these "artists".

Yeah it's about time somebody does something. This attention-whoring bullshit has gone on for too long.

Fortunately I don't think I have to think about that. I believe I just got a major project at the end of my third year that's suppose to require all of my knowledge. No need to think about a thesis or anything.

Heh, luckily I don't have a compulsory attendance for lectures. If so, I might have quit my studies some time ago cause listening to all those boring ass lectures that cover 10 lines of text in 2 hours would've driven me crazy.

Oh I don't think I ever got those. Generally we only have one book per course and we seldom ever use it anyway. That's why I stopped buying books this year, cause I'm not gonna pay $50 for something that's still in plastic after I've finished the course.

Nope. I could only understand a few words here and there.
But once again I am amazed how any dutch person can say "german is a hard language" while dutch sounds much harder (at least to me ^^).

I know dutch is hard cause a lot of grammar rules don't make sense and have tons of exceptions.

But I believe German grammar is actually very similar. Why we might call it hard is because we have to learn the German grammar well in our schools while for the subject 'dutch' we don't have to do all that. We mostly get text interpreting, which I guess is why dutch people make so many mistakes in their own grammar.

Maybe not. It doesn't really sound like a dutch word anyway, more like something people from Aruba brought over.

Turns out there was a minor error on their end. My mum told me someone else was having the same problem around the same time I tried to draw money. I drew cash later on with no troubles. Ah well, I'm just glad I was able to get money in the end.

This always sucks. It sucks even more if the only ATM around doesn't work and the bank has already closed.

Yes, the intro of Final Frontier is great as well, but not as great as At The Edge of Time's intro.

I once had a lecture that was held by three different profs. And I had to buy 3 different books. In the end I didn't take the test because it was way too much to study. The results proved me right: only 17%(!!!) off all those who took the test passed.

Especially maths is well known to have very fast professors. One is renowed for his "additional scripts". The script he gives out in the very first lecture only lasts for about half of the semester. ^^

But yeah, I will never understand why those books I need for my lectures have to be so expensive.
For economics the recommended book ("without it you will not be able to pass the test!" the professor said, well fuck you, I did!) costs around 100EU! I didn't buy it.

But once again I am amazed how any dutch person can say "german is a hard language" while dutch sounds much harder (at least to me ^^).
I know dutch is hard cause a lot of grammar rules don't make sense and have tons of exceptions.

I was more referring to the sound of the language. German is often called a "hard language" because of all the "ch", "k" and other "hard" sounds. I heard dutch people "complaining" that german sounds hard and when they where talking in dutch I thought: "Well, YOUR language doesn't sound any softer..."

But I believe German grammar is actually very similar. Why we might call it hard is because we have to learn the German grammar well in our schools while for the subject 'dutch' we don't have to do all that. We mostly get text interpreting, which I guess is why dutch people make so many mistakes in their own grammar.

To be honest: I suck at grammar. In every language I am able or was once able (french) to speak.
For me it's more like a "feeling": "Oh yeah, this sounds good, so it has to be right."
Luckily most of the time I'm right. XD

Maybe not. It doesn't really sound like a dutch word anyway, more like something people from Aruba brought over.

I know the flash portal will have a few new things but I'm unsure about the other departments. I doubt we'll have the Lit Portal when the redesign is launched.

I still play a bit of Mario Kart Wii and Brawl but only when I'm playing games with my friends. However, even then I get a bit tired of Brawl. I was hoping they'd have some interest in LittleBigPlanet but they lost interest due to bad levels and just played games on the Wii.

The other Wii games I've played are Metroid Prime 3 (didn't get far), Zelda: Twilight Princess (was enjoying it up until some stupid fishing quest), Guitar Hero III, Tomb Raider Underworld (fucking blows on the Wii), Mega Man 9 and Wii Fit (I'd rather forget I played this).

Last week I also played Guitar Hero for the first time.

I've not played Guitar Hero for over a year now. I might break that but I'm unsure what to do if I ever get back to these games. Not sure if forking out over £150 is worth it. Hell, I could get a fucking 360 with that money!

* You might know that the cup final is on Wednesday evening, so I've got a chance of being on a cup winning side. In the league, Bridgenorth lost against Coseley, so we were tied on points with them, entering yesterday's game. We beat Belbroughton and if Bridgnorth beat the bottom team in the league, we'll be back to square one... with a twist.

You see, we have one game left this season - yesterday was Bridgnorth's last game. If we win, or the match is abandoned, we'll beat them on points. Other than that, we should be able to hopefully beat them with the tie-breaker, which is the number of wickets taken. I think I've helped toward that this year, whoch would be awesome.

So the stories that I missed last time because I didn't have time.

I was working the cash register when a very nervous and indecisive man came to buy a 4 dollar shirt. He pulled out a wad of money that was mostly twenties, fifties, and one hundreds. He preceded to hand me a 100 dollar bill and I went to give him change back. He says never mind, I have the four ones. I give him the 100 dollar bill back and he gave me another 100 dollar bill and the 4 ones back and asked for change for the 100.

I gave him 5 twenties back and he argued that I owed him another 5 twenties because I never gave him the original 100 back. I told him I did and he was only getting the 5 twenties. He couldn't talk straight, started to sweat, and finally figured that he couldn't trick me into giving him more money back.

Man number 2 an hour later.

He goes to buy a 5 dollar gift card and then starts to talk about kids. "Kids, do you have any? Are you married? Well let me tell you what, etc.., etc..."

He hands me a fifty dollar bill so I give him two 20's and 5 back. He then very quickly pockets the twenties and pulls out two one dollar bills. I never actually say it happen, but I knew that I gave him the two twenties and the five. He started to get angry that I only gave him 7 dollars back instead of the 45 and he was really smooth so I decided to be smooth about it as well.

"Sir what exactly do you need to buy a five dollar gift card for? And why in the world would you use a fifty dollar bill for it? You have two choices. You can stand your ground and I'll call security and a manager to come over and count the register or you can keep the two twenties that you put in your pocket and leave with your dignity."

He said the forty dollars weren't worth it and left.

I can never seem to stick to a workout regime aside from fitting in a 3 mile walk around once a day, and of course depositing my experience on the Interwebs.

The three mile walk is inevitable while at college. Especially since I'll live half a mile away from campus and all of the stairs that I have to go up and down all day... I'm not too excited for it all.

I believe the longest I've ever stuck with a routine was for around 8 months, and that was back when I was 15.

That's pretty good though. I usually mess it up by the second week when I don't feel like going to the gym. I'm going to really try and commit to it this time though as I want to play some semi-pro football next summer.

And let's not forget my birthday on the 24th of September. ;) A birthday that is usually spent doing school work and staying inside because of college..

Yeah, I really enjoy September. The heat dies down just a little, Labor Day holiday in the US, and Fall is just around the corner. August is just way too boring for my likings.

Hopefully all 160 of them are just the letter B to make it easier to do.

I know the flash portal will have a few new things but I'm unsure about the other departments. I doubt we'll have the Lit Portal when the redesign is launched.

I know Tom mentioned the Art Reviews will be fully functional and searchable and I don't see anything major done to the Art Portal since it's pretty new. It'll be interesting to see what they will do with the Audio Portal; it needs some work to say the least.

Uhh, this is getting awkward. Still, I shouldn't have been wearing that shirt if you're seeing my dragon persona.

So you would be roaming around London with your sword hanging out?
If I have some free time I'll go back and fix the last one and the one below.

Oh man, I can't believe how quickly you went through his flashes. That was like 320 flashes of crap. At least the Star Syndicate have some quality submissions.

They weren't all too bad, they were all just generic. Maze Game Play XX, XXXX Escape, etc. it just never ends. 123peppy was worse, since it was geared to 10 year old girls and there were tons of cooking and add makeup to a celebrity games.

Anywho, there are all done now and it time to move on to games2dress and others like it after a short break.

Yeah, that is always a bugger. When I was buying The Young Ones on DVD today, I feared my bank account was going to go haywire again. :P

Wehn my card was damaged (it hat a crack where the magnetic strip was, not sure how this could happen) I couldn't use it to pay at cash registers but I could draw money from ATMs without any problems. That was really strange.

Of course not, Sacred Worlds is beyond awesome. However, do you have any thoughts on The Green and Black?
I don't know it, I don't like Overkill too much.
I'm not a big fan of them either but their latest album was really good. Probably better than their classics. Give it a listen and see what you think.

I have to listen to it later.
I saw Overkill live once, but it was way too loud, so I left after only a few minutes.

They are unlucky because they don't get to see the awesome things I get to see.
No, they're lucky because they don't get their monitors exploding all the time.

Yes, but they also only get to see boring things on the internet.

Fortunately I don't think I have to think about that. I believe I just got a major project at the end of my third year that's suppose to require all of my knowledge. No need to think about a thesis or anything.
Well it's not like I am completly lost about my thesis, the problem is: The professors that do the stuff I'm most interested in are about to retire...

Well that sucks. Now it takes longer and you can't even do anything about it.

Oh I don't think I ever got those. Generally we only have one book per course and we seldom ever use it anyway. That's why I stopped buying books this year, cause I'm not gonna pay $50 for something that's still in plastic after I've finished the course.
I once had a lecture that was held by three different profs. And I had to buy 3 different books. In the end I didn't take the test because it was way too much to study. The results proved me right: only 17%(!!!) off all those who took the test passed.

Jeez that's really low. I know my study is pretty difficult and generally only around 50% passes a test the first time. On the more difficult subjects it's even less, but I don't think I've never heard of an exam where only 17% passed.

Actually if that happened, I think some special rules come into play because the pass percentage is too low. Like extra resits or something.

But yeah, I will never understand why those books I need for my lectures have to be so expensive.
For economics the recommended book ("without it you will not be able to pass the test!" the professor said, well fuck you, I did!) costs around 100EU! I didn't buy it.

Yeah all my first year books costed over 400 euros in total. It were about 8 books I think and half of them have barely been touched. It's crazy how expensive those books are and it's just a shame that you hardly need them. Sometimes I wanna look up a formula or something, but even then I can find them much easier on the internet.

Oh like that. Well I think German is a harder language than Dutch, but maybe it's because Dutch people usually have a bit of a modest tone when they're talking.

XD

Well for me too, but it only works in English and Dutch because I have no ear for if something sounds right in French and German.

=/

Never heard of Bonaire and Curacao either I assume?
Nope. I know however the "Lesser Antilles", even though I didn't really know where they where located until I looked it up.

I believe Bonaire and Curacao are part of the Dutch Antilles which is a part of the Lesser Antilles. Not sure though, my topography isn't that good anymore.

Heh, isn't that the longest town name in the world?
Yeah, with 58 letters it is the longest. And I just read it has a twinning agreement with "Ee" (Netherlands) and "Y" (France). ^^

Also interesting: The official name of Bangkok is: "Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Yuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Phiman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukam Prasit"

Oh yeah I read that in the paper some time ago. I guessed it must translate to something like: City of blablalblalblalblalblabala.

Only if you sing Everlong with me.

Everlong? Doesn't seem fitting for a scene where people are whacking each other with giant orange hands.

Well I went to see it at the cinema yesterday. I'd say the movie is not as awesome as the cast makes it seem to be, but you still get what you pay for. Which is long action scenes, random explosions and a funny joke here and there.

Still, you're probably not missing much if you decide not to go and see it.
I might just have to watch it then.

Maybe. It is probably something people will be talking about, if they're interested in movies that is, so it's still an interesting movie to go and see perhaps.

You need to go watch Snatch. then. Seriously, it's a brilliant movie with Jason Statham. It also features Brad Pitt (as a boxing pikey), Vinnie Jones and some other British bastards.
I've heard of it - I just never got to watching it.

Go watch it then. I'm pretty sure you'll like it. Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels is another good one from the same director.

I'm convinced he could have!
I think we should agree to disagree here :P

Jean Claude van Damme does not make compromises!

No way man. That'd be a disaster for everything that's awesome in Hollywood.

Still doesn't ring any bells, but I assume that show is gonna be broadcasted on TV here someday. Just like any show from America and the UK is always broadcasted a couple of years later here.

She's a bit intimidated by the forum though, cause people post so many sexual/edgy/weird topics in the general forum.
Haha, that will be fun. Just tell her to avoid General forum like the plague. However, there's still the talks about sexual dragon fantasies in this thread...

I already told her about how General sucks and which forums are okay. Still though, I don't know if there's anything interesting for her in the Wi/Ht? (I don't think she'll be that much of a statwhore) and the only club she might join is the Vegetarian Community.

But I got better things to do! My to-do list is probably longer than my list of tracks in I-tunes at the moment.
You plan to do that if you come back from the dead?

YEAH!

No actually I should do all that before I die. Not much chance I will really come back from the dead.

Yep! It was only Mariokart, Brawl and Wii Sports though. Oh and Wii Play (which SUUUUUCKS).
I still play a bit of Mario Kart Wii and Brawl but only when I'm playing games with my friends. However, even then I get a bit tired of Brawl. I was hoping they'd have some interest in LittleBigPlanet but they lost interest due to bad levels and just played games on the Wii.

Yeah I actually got tired of Brawl and Mario Kart fairly quickly. I think that's the thing with multiplayer games, when you play them alone you will get bored with them soon.

Fishing quest in TP... hmm was that mandatory? I don't think it was. Or do you mean at the very beginning? Because if so then you sure gave up quickly.

Metroid Prime 3 was one of the few games I would've been interested in if I had a Wii. The other ones you mentioned... not so much.

Last week I also played Guitar Hero for the first time.
I've not played Guitar Hero for over a year now. I might break that but I'm unsure what to do if I ever get back to these games. Not sure if forking out over £150 is worth it. Hell, I could get a fucking 360 with that money!

Yeah I think it's waaay too expensive as well. I mean, it's mostly fun when you play with more people but you gotta invest hundreds of euros before you finally have all the instruments and none of the individual guitar hero games really have a setlist that can keep you playing for hours I think.

Or at least, a friend of mine had Guitar Hero V and World Tour and honestly... their setlists SUCKED! I think out of the 100 songs that were on either disk, there were about 20 tracks that I would want to play and the rest was just garbage. Seriously... it had like fucking... The Gorillaz - Feel Good, Coldplay and that sort of bullshit on it. And even from bands like the Rolling Stones they had a poor song selection. It had Sympathy for the Devil but that song only has two guitar solos and for the rest I was just doing the piano... =/

So you will probably have to buy several of those games before you finally have a good amount of songs that will keep you interested in the game. By that time you might have spent well over 500 euros on it =/

Yes, or... doing things you put on your to-do list. Like jumping a burning motorcycle through a hoop made of black mamba's. Stuff like that.
Yeah, stuff like making icons and helping out for the future of Newgrounds.

... while jumping through a hoop of black mamba's on a burning motorcycle? Now that would be hardcore.

You mean SlapHappy? Well just as easy as she turned her back to Slappy, she can turn her back to you.
Not sure if I can trust her if she cheats on me again.

No, definitely not.

Yeah, I don't know if Coop will be as good as a frontman as Freddy Mercury was.
Hey Coop, Auz is questioning your singing talent. :P

No not his singing talent. More his... stage charisma. Although if he keeps that mustache and puts on a funny hat, I think he'll be fine.

Yeah it's about time somebody does something. This attention-whoring bullshit has gone on for too long.
I'm glad we're finally sorting out bullshit in the music industry. Infact, Iron Maiden's new album reached #1 on the UK charts and THAT is a huge improvement for music.

Haven't listened to the album yet but: YEEEAAAAH! Take that stupid attention whores!

Maybe I'll finally hear some good music on the music TV stations now.

Next thing we'll need to worry about is taking down YouTube whores.

Yep, they might be an even bigger problem.
