Do you have old art you're proud of?

Usually, when we talk about older works, we talk about how ashamed we feel 'bout them. However, I found some old drawings of mine, and I'm not ashamed of them. I'm actually proud. You have any work like that?

I stopped being ashamed about my older works the day I learned to see them in the context and time they were made at. A bad work in today's standards may have that one mile stone for me. Did i learn new way to use colour? Did I finally do 2 good eyes on a face? Finally got past the noodle hand syndrome regular basis ? Did draw my favorite person or character and it just cheered me up ? And so on and so on.

Sure there are works I am more proud of than others, but more I think of it, more I understand concept of 'journey' for myself.

This was in 2022 and it was my first stab at trying to incorporate backgrounds/environments to my pieces. At the time I was actually proud of it and I thought I was hot shit. It actually took me so long to finish up, but now I look at this and I know I can do way better. So I like it from an progression point of view

Now this piece was done way earlier in the year. I was actually really happy with the colors and I thought this was pretty good. Today now, I see that the lineart is way more messier than I want it to be, but I still like the colors. I actually want to redraw this piece pretty soon.

I'm pretty proud of the art I've made out of boredom.

Here's one about a year ago

Due to the amount of time I've spent doing nothing, I've thought of making a piece instead. That was a lot of time so I was able to really focus on the shading of this one.

iu_1123212_10334054.webp

I also have this ballpen drawing that I didn't get to finish

I didn't spend as much time on this one compared to the other one because I wasn't erasing my mistakes. And since I've only done a few ballpen only drawings at the time, I'm surprised I was able to make something this clean.

I spent a lot more time and effort per piece when I was looking for work and building a portfolio about six-ish years ago, so considering how everything I make for fun these days only takes a day or two, it looks like I was more skilled back then compared to now.

Also, an storyboard for an animation I planned doing and never did

iu_1123279_10186085.webp

And some sketches of characters for a challenge I did were I had to do one character everyday during 50 days. You can see those in my IG

I stared at that first image guessing it was your reference and I was gonna scroll down to see your study of it. I totally thought it was a photo!

Your linework and colouring only makes these more adorable. Looking at pics 2 and 3.

Don't really have any "old" art to share since my oldest piece is from this year. Sorry :/

Response to Do you have old art you're proud of? 2023-12-01 02:24:45

It may not be a still image (does animation count?), but this is really the only old piece that's still good in my opinion.

iu_1123330_11364755.gif

Made it last year.

I like to look at it.

Most of my early art was just poorly made portraits but there are a few more interesting pieces that I still like to this day.

iu_1123470_12978769.webp

Here I was playing with backgrounds and layer modes (nowdays I worship those)

iu_1123471_12978769.webp

Here I got better with backgrounds n allthat, altough I still love to draw characters.

iu_1123472_12978769.webp

This one is from 2021 and I made it for an assignement, the first ones were from 2020.

iu_1123473_12978769.webp

And this is my favourite one, also from late 2021 I'd say.

These backgrounds are cool. Characters seem fine, even though they have some mistakes in anatomy. However, I saw your profile, you seem to have sorted that mostly

Always been kind of pleased with this one. It's not super best awesome space art, but I did work very hard on it. I only had a mouse at the time I made this so it probably took way, way longer then than it would have taken if I did it now with my tablet.

iu_1123497_20077632.webp

It depicts a young, still forming planet that is slightly elliptical due to it's fast rotation and the fact it's still very hot and liquid. Above picture is with clouds, but the below picture is if you could see through the clouds to the surface.

Wow dude, that's impressive. The perspective of the globe is slightly off, but almost unnoticeable

Probably this specific piece from last year (2022), since it opened my mind up to be more broad with writing in general and character design.

I've never really been one to hate my old art- sure there are some pieces that are a little embarrassing, but overall nothing I've made since the age of 14 to now was really ever that egregious. here's a couple I still have pride over, taken from my deviantart page.

these are both from 2016 and I think they hold up really well.

Ditto, had to look closely at the motorcycle to realize it wasn't a photo at all!

I made that one during a familiar reunion 'cause I was bored. Is the concept of a game I have in mind, but I have many other works to do before.

OC fanart made for Skoops in early 2022. I definitely would've done things a little differently today but I still really like the color palette.
