I've been posting art on numerous platforms for years now and I don't think I've ever gotten more then 200 veiws on any of them. I think my art is decent quality? I want to open up commissions but I've tried to before and they've never garnered anything. Does anyone have any advice on how to get more people to see your art? Or critique on my own? Idk man

From what I've been reading, you should try interacting with the forums. Like making an art thread forum or post your art on a forum that says "hey, show me your art".

I second this advice. I would also suggest being active in other people's art threads. Practically every artist on NG has their own art thread - check them out, and if you like what you see don't hesitate to leave a post explaining why. It might seem like such a small thing but I think everyone gets giddy when they see someone share any kind of feedback. Not to mention, commenting on someone else's art can create a bond with other users, who might feel more inclined to click on your profile image and check out your art as well.

Lastly, I would like to say: be patient. I'm hardly a veteran here - I've been on Newgrounds for literally a month. But from my own experience, things like followers, views and feedback tend to come rather slowly. Personally, it's something I really like because it gives me the feeling that I'm growing my audience organically, for lack of a better word. Keep making art, keep challenging yourself and making your art better, and engage in the forums. The views will come - slowly, but surely.

Best of luck on your art journey!

Theres so many thread here that let you showcased your art.

Trough voodoo and black magic.

... ok maybe that's also reason why it doesn't work, but i keep trying. Otherwise forums are probably only reason anyone even opens my works in NG as my works are soooooooo off the chart not NG usual style and has too little modern pop-culture references.

I second what everyone was saying and also add this - make sure to check the calendar and the Collab Forum! There was a period of time where a lot of art collabs were going on (I think it partly started with @Taka’s Cute Cat Collab project), and since they got front paged most of the time, they would really boost the visibility of everyone involved! If more of these happen, joining in will be one way to be seen more!

Also, if you do fanart, don’t be afraid to draw your favorite obscure characters and media, if you have them! Since there won’t be as much fanart, it’s more likely that someone will stumble across your piece in particular and be very appreciative that you drew their favorite thing that they feel deserves more love!

Someone please help me revive my clubs

My tip is the algorithm of Most social Media work against your success that why you need to befriend other artist and also give them likes so they give you likes back

like in a relationship of friends and how you slowly will build your own fanbase

you gotta draw pop stuff, like nowadays people like to see stuff like a dude getting sex with a velociraptor, snake furry, dead horse porn, woman with a head of a dog, etc

This, but also, that sort of stuff doesn't tend to live very long. High quality art of characters people like will naturally accrue views over time. Interspersed with your own characters and scenes it's a great tactic

Not for nothin', but you're pretty early in your journey for lamenting a lack of fame and paid gigs. Be patient and focus on improvement, and followers will result as a byproduct; it doesn't work the other way around.

The other advice here, like being active on the forums and doing fan art, will net you a marginal increase in views, but it's not gonna translate into more positive views or be a night and day difference until your foundation is more solid.

You make a fair point, Sorry if it seemed like I was coming off as overly disappointed. It's more of curiousness/ concern on if I was doing something wrong or if there are techniques artists use. I agree with the comment that fan art and forum interactions don't matter if you don't have good art to show for it. I'm simply hearing from others and broadening perspectives. So thanks for writing this, and I think you're right :)

not really sure about this one, sure it's worked for some but most creators don't start by mooching off of their artist friends. I think (hope) there are ways to roll with algorhithms. But then again I'm no expert

I would say that a lot of different factors play into it, but you should definitely be as active as you can online.

I struggle with the same thing where I just don't get a lot of traffic or attention even with things that aren't related to artwork. My biggest flaw is that I just don't post my art a lot online aside from newgrounds and at the moment new grounds traffic is starting to wind down (I know that when Friday night funkin became really popular newgrounds had a big spike in traffic which was really good for smaller artists on this site)

I know that on other platforms such as Instagram and Twitter there's been a big issue with small accounts kind of being ignored, so I would say try to interact with as many people as you can whether it's just by commenting on other people's posts or even making fan art, just really try to push yourself out there.

Another good piece of advice is try to think of what characters are popular right now and draw those characters. Like I know a lot of people will try to say that trend hopping is bad and you shouldn't join every bandwagon but if that's what's popular right now that's what's going to get the most views.

Response to How do you get people to look at your art? 2023-09-25 08:32:38

Just keep going. Make art you want to and art you like. This whole thing of art is about being you. Just keep doing that.

I podcast, make documentaries, cartoons, games and art. I also hate lawns. Love weasels. Am neutral on Snow Cones. I feel nothing about snow cones. Sometimes they are nice.

Interacting with others could definitely do the trick. I'm not all that experienced with having a lot of people view my work either, but I have seen a lot of artists gain traction via fanart of popular franchises? That might help too unless you're not really a fanart person (Me too).

Throw your hat in some newground collabs or competitions, you will see them on the home page to the top left. It's a great way to get involved with the community regardless of your skill level. People here tend to like to connect with those who feel familiar.

Reading through these points of advice, I agree with many of them:

  • Interacting in the art forums.
  • Starting your own art thread. I see you've already done that and it looks good so far.
  • Giving feedback in other people's art threads.
  • Creating an active online presence.
  • Making are that you want to.
  • Doing so even if your favourite characters and media are obscure. @Thetageist you really spoke to my soul with this one.
  • Joining a competition or collaboration to put your artwork in front of people and to be alongside them in a project. At the moment I'm running a collab that you might be interested in.

I'm not entirely sure about posting in "show me your art" threads. Iirc I was advised to post all of my art in one thread instead of having it spread out to increase my likelihood of getting scouted. Idk maybe somebody needs to clarify.

I find that favouriting and reviewing other people's art is also good. It lets them know you like their stuff and how they can make it even better.

Maybe you could pick your personal faves from that library and start your thread out like that.

You could make, stick or project or whatever, your art onto various places where lots of peoples pass by.

You could also simply randomly walk up to people and hold your art right in front of people's fat dumb faces.

You could also invest in a fire-arm, and point it towards people, telling them they have to look at your art (or else...?). Allthough this method has many risks and dissadvantages for the long-term. So probably better off keeping things peacefull.

You can also pay people, a little money could make some eyes move around. Or lure the content-hungry crowds with, some good old fashioned click-bait! And become a master-baiter.
