Something with sci-fi would be a good palette cleanser after westerns. Popular IP's, but with a twist mabye? Just spitballin', you probably have better ideas.

Regardless, I think what people have made so far is great!
I think something a bit more mainstream is fine, though I'll be steering clear of preexisting IPs. Iterating off of other people's work is totally valid, but I would never require it.

Yeah I figured, that's probably the right decision.

nothing fancy or particularly creative, but a nice relaxing sketch that never overstayed its welcome.

as for picking that next theme thats entirely on you boss, but the way i used to handle it was that i would draw the suggestion in the theme post, this shows good faith (that you yourself care and are participating) and if its impressive enough it can inspire, focus or discourage noobs.

A distant engine of hate is stirring....

I have no clue what you mean, this is Legally Distinct from any Vampire Hunter Anime, Letters notwithstanding.

You'll have no opponents, no time limit, and no scoring mechanisms. This is a community activity where the goal is to test yourself, learn, improve, and help your fellow Newgroundsers to do the same.

This month, I want to keep it simple:

Yep, you got it. Anything goes this time, so long as it integrates your standard vampire tropes with a wild west aesthetic.
Creative juices still not flowing? Here's some sub-prompts to get those wheels a-turnin':

With that, I release you! Go nuts!
Special thanks to @Template88 and @FlikkiShassART for being the first to suggest community design collabs.

Vampires and the Wild West? Sounds pretty interesting, I have some idea so might do something with it after PicoDay.

Good to know that this doesn't have time limit.

Here's my Vampire gunslinger character. Even though this design didn't turn out good I still learned a bunch. It really challenged me in using research and reference to understand how things are put together and key objects that define a cowboy.

Not only is the design cool, props for going back to a past challenge! I think the effort you put into this is fantastic, and the results really reflect that.

That's how it's done! When you research all these elements, it gradually gets easier to put them together in interesting ways.

Something that might help is giving yourself permission to do a bit of exaggeration here and there to add emphasis to the most important and role-defining elements of the design.

You can do this with more realistic and true-to-life styles, but here's an extremely stylized example just to make the points super obvious - the gunner from Disgaea:

iu_536537_8048042.webp

The big, silhouette-defining features are the poncho and the hat to evoke The Man With No Name, Secondary features that pop are the fringes on the chaps, the big utility pouch and holster, gloves, etc. The oogie-boogie smiley face on the hat doesn't seem to say much until you view him at a different angle to find out that those eyes are actually bullet holes. You know what this guy's deal is before he even takes his gun out.

I love that folks keep coming back to this one. Especially since I'm skipping March for challenges in observance of me playing Elden Ring.

You can participate if you really want to. People still come back to these threads years after. There's no expiration date here. I still plan on doing a full piece for this challenge.

Better late than never.

You´re right.

Good! All of my art challenges exist in perpetuity, and I encourage necrobumping them with fresh content.
