NGOC2021: Results

Alright, folks, the moment you've been waiting for! The judges have reviewed all entries and picked out the winners.

1st - For Curiosity's Sake by @VocalOutburst

A charming, heartwarming, playful, and emotional piece depicting an epic adventure from VocalOutburst, who went out of his comfort zone to bring out the most expression from the instruments which he could access.

2nd - Corpse Moth by @LD-W

A piece with admirable technicality, and an atmosphere that is at once playful and fills the listener with dread. Why go for these mixes in sound? Why not! Also orchestra goes BRRRRRRR.

3rd - Carefree Minuet by @MIssionary-music

A lighthearted, cute, modern take on a Baroque form of music, with excellent chords and harmonies.

All signatures were made by the lovely @Template88. Please show Template some love, people!

Winners, you will be shouted out in a future Newgrounds Podcast episode. Also, @Ninjamuffin99 and I have been in discussion about providing Steam keys to games from the sizeable prize pool he's still got going, so please keep your eyes peeled for this. I will update you on the NG Audio Pub server or on here (though more likely the former) as soon as I hear more.

Wow, congrats to the winners! They definitely deserve it. Will we get to see everybody's scores? It's ok if we don't, the judges worked hard enough listening to all of our entries! Thank you for this opportunity to listen to new styles of music from others and to learn more about composition. Can't wait for next year ;)

For my part, I intend to finalise my notes and make my end of the scores public -- it has been a practice of mine since last year's AIM to write lengthy, thorough reviews, whether in a Google Doc or on Newgrounds itself.

It will take me a while, but I plan to have my reviews up in the next few days. Please bear with me.

And to me, doing something full blown orcheastral for the first time was quite a fun challenge and it made me want to do more stuff like this, so I liked this contest overall

I tried my best to listen as much entries as I could and a lot of them were really really great!! Even picked some favs from them. Y'all have lots and lots of talent and potential.

I'm aware I haven't performed very well in my piece mostly because I had to work with restraints, and I'm really bad at restraints haha

This has been a very fun contest, I'm glad many people participated, and I hope this happens next year as well!!

Not gonna lie, I am sure a lot of people will feel frustrated for not getting in, or not getting the 1st place. But that just mean we still need a lot more improvement in our music. I will respect the choices of the judges since music appreciation is quite subjective. Good job everyone and hope our music writing skill improve further.

Congrats to everybody, for real! All of the entries had so much different stuff to offer.

Honestly, this competition helped me get my own unexpected prize: after many years in this community, a piece of mine was featured on the Front Page! (my 15-year-old self would be kicking and screaming from excitement at this!)

And I never would have uploaded it if it wasn't for this fun contest! I see a lot of love in these niche corners and it makes me want to explore it further than ever before - and find inspiration within.
