NG is blocked by many school/uni firewalls for this reason. That's not the worse part, there's also softcore kiddy porn in the Art Portal (e.g. Shadman) so if you had a pro name linked to this site, you're done.

I don't believe you can see A rated content if you aren't logged in, which anyone doing this sort of thing wouldn't be. Plus when it comes to hiring people for art, they care more about the quality of your work instead of the subject. I'm not saying you should submit those pieces in a portfolio situation, but you shouldn't be afraid of posting them or not using Newgrounds as a resource.

THIS. ^^^^^ X1000.

Just for context, we know that Bosa, etherealwinds, Dimrain47, hania and the people who succeeded actually did so even though their stage names are known to be on Newgrounds.

It's what you make that people are after, and if they see quality content and things that touch hearts, they're going to be moved by it. And when they are moved by it, it doesn't matter if someone next to you has drawn inflation fetish of characters they like. They're not gonna go for the inflation fetish stuff. They're gonna go for you.

(Okay, disclaimer: if some of your fans are into inflation fetish stuff, then sure, they're gonna go for the inflation fetish stuff, but they're likely not going to associate you with it, especially if your work takes a more sombre tone.)

Thank god! lmao I don't really show my NG page to ppl, so i'm not too worried.

Teacher I have a question. The rules state that songs have to be between 3-6 minutes and I understand that and of course I doubt my songs will end up being more than 5 minutes most. However over the course of time I've been working a lot on EDM Progressive mixes and with that have come to make my own sound out of it. If one of my songs exceeds the 6 minute margin is there some sort of flexibility towards it? I really enjoy doing what a do and sharing is my favorite thing but I can get carried away with it and sometimes don't realize it gets too lengthy. I can do some editing to them but then I feel out of touch with that particular sound I found.

I'm pretty sure that yes, there is a 15 seconds flexibility and what nots (Like 2:45 and 6:15 would be in the edge of getting accepted) or something like that

Eventually you'll get an official answer

In terms of flexibility, I generally accept entries that are up to 30 seconds out of the range on either end. I would encourage you to get as close to the range as you can, though. Anything past that leeway would almost certainly be disqualified.

Last 8 hours 'til deadline.

Lets see if I can get a second entry out!

I'm literally so close to being finished but bummed I won't have enough time to submit the 2nd one. is there any way I can get an extra 30 minutes? I had work till 10 and I've been trying to finish the 2nd one. If not it's okay but it would mean a lot to me.

Well personally, I'd go with finishing the track. Might as well; there's about 20 minutes left to submit!

I opened the project template, kind of got like 1 pattern down, got distracted by a phone call and then fell asleep.

Woke up 3 hours ago and saw how close deadline was. Went into a mini Manic Episode and composed Entry 2 at lightning speed to get it in!

At least I got it in with a few mins to spare haha

I'm sorry but may I ask why my entry isn't part of the playlist? Not gonna lie it kinda hurts that my efforts were flushed down the drain tbh :`(

If your entry was very recently submitted, I haven't gotten around to checking it yet. I only stopped at "Space Collapsing", so if anything was added after that, it just hasn't been looked over. It will be looked at shortly.

No worries, sorry for freaking you out. I should have put that it's important to check to see if other entries past you are added. If they are, then it would most likely mean disqualification, but if they're not, then it means that they haven't been checked yet. I wish you all the best in the compo. :)

BTW

I just tried to count how many entries there were... 88? EIGHTY EIGHT? Did I count right?

I'm really happy to see this many users joining in (I quite like the idea of Art Inspired Music), but wow, that a lot of music to choose from (I'll still try to listen to all for the fan favorite vote)

You're right; there are 88 entries this year - more than double of last year's 41 entry turnout. It's super exciting; there's a lot of great content so far!

I checked out the Google Doc and my audio entry, "Beware the House on the Hill," is not properly linked. The link in question links to "With the Wind," which is the previous entry on that list.

This is the correct link:

This song deserves more attention. It's really unique, well-produced, and relaxing.

That ones really really good. With some slight pitch correction I would honestly have it over my current favorite. Lots of impressive tracks this year

I agree that the music has a really cool, relaxing sound and is very well done. The vocals are not quite in tune at times, nor are they as well-mixed as the other elements, but the voice is a particularly tough instrument to gain mastery over.

Personal pet peeve: with such a wide stereo field for the percussion, I just can't abide those dead center stick hits.

I do not condone plant abuse, but I will allow that it makes for a very unique sound and adds to the ambience. Pray that no one from Greenpeace is watching. Or Poison Ivy (if she were real).

I am actually in a similar boat where I was surprised at how overlooked the song seemed. I wanted it to be my favourite, but it just wasn't :/

@faunsound @chrononomad

Ah I see. I almost never sing so I guess I was oblivious to such flaws. I notice it more now.

@ectisity @soulsecure

It's not my favorite either; I just wanted it to get more listens so it catches up to tracks of similar quality.

I don't think I'll vote for fan favorite this year. It would feel wrong if I don't listen to every track, and I don't think I'll do that considering how many there are.

I'm inclined to agree, and eighty-eight tracks is indeed a ponderous load, especially for those of us who already strain our ears to make the music. That said, would an artist participating in the contest actually vote for a track that isn't one of their own? Color me skeptical.

I had an easy time of it since even though I listen to many different genres from all over the world and all that (blah, blah, blah), I am actually pretty picky. It's funny actually, cuz I've been called a 'musical snob' cuz I hate most of what's on the radio, but I've also been asked many times, "What in the world are you listening to!?" As I think about it the guy who called me a musical snob had never heard any of the things I enjoy listening to... Whatever I still accept it cuz I am picky.

It would be good to have a rule against voting for your own track, but I don't think it has been a problem before in this contest. Correct me if it has been.

In the last contest, not a lot of people voted, but no one voted for their own. I think it just comes across as pretentious most of the time and would disallow it.

Response to AIM 2020 Discussions Thread 2020-06-28 16:54:49

Oh wow, I'm really flattered by the shout-out but I honestly agree with the comments about the vocals not quite being on par. I ended up doing waaay too many takes for some bits without ever really feeling like I nailed it, but for the sake of my sanity I just had to go with whichever felt least off. That being said, recording and mixing this felt like a huge step in my own musical journey so it's very encouraging to hear that it resonated with some.

Meanwhile, I'm barely halfway through listening to all the entries myself and I must say I'm amazed by the huge diversity in music and the sheer quality. It's gonna be really hard to pick one favorite at the end of it, I've heard some really awesome stuff from all sides of the spectrum so far.

Oh and the plant was fine, I gave them a safety blanket and a hot cocoa afterwards.
