I have PTSD from the first one, like seeing this has triggered me.

Oh yeah, I can just hear the outrage from movie buffs and old age supremacists over this movie, regardless of quality of said movie.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

The first Emoji Movie was one of the most soulless, morally bankrupt, and joyless things ever shat out into theaters.
I was partly being sarcastic about what I said. The Emoji movie was terrible by any metric and while I’m certainly not going to defend the movie, to say that it is soul and morals are bankrupt is a bit extreme. Frankly, it’s a dumb movie that was aimed at kids anyway that no one expected it to succeed, and it lived up to that expectation. Kids movies shouldn’t be all dumb, I get that, but expecting a highbrow level of thought in kids movies is a tall task.
I went into it with an open thinking I knew it wouldn't be as bad as everyone was saying and was proven so very, very wrong. All of the hate was deserved. Nobody put any real passion into making it. It is almost completely devoid of anything resembling quality and is nothing more than a way for Sony Pictures Animation to exploit children so that they may reach into their parents pockets.
That’s kind of why I made that joke. Movie/cultural critics and out of touch codgers are naturally going to ravage this movie for what they think it represents, but that vast majority of moviegoers (including kids) are probably not going to give two shits about it because of how bad it is. This isn’t Birth of a Nation, where the subject matter is actually horrible, (in spite of its pioneering legacy in filmwork and D.W. Griffith’s repulsion) this is simply a movie that is dull and gauche, but ultimately harmless in the big picture.
Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.
