Do we really have to explain no politics in the lounge again? The post you replied to was 3 days old so it's not like you were caught in the heat of the moment.

Please have a little respect for what this thread is and what it's for.

We also need the politics to stay out of the lounge my friend. The point of this thread is supposed to be to build community within the forum amongst the debaters here. You and I are a good example of that, we couldn't be further apart politically, but in here, I bet if we go through some topics long enough, eventually we'll find one we can discuss and maybe even find we have the same or a similar viewpoint.

As far as Batman V Superman, saw it, hated it. I think it goes to everything that's bad and cliche and easy within the super hero genre. It's all shock and awe with very little heart and it doesn't portray either major character in a flattering way.

I hated it as well. It just hit 29% on Rotten Tomatoes, so many people disliked it.

Meh, cliche can do well. (Seriously, aside from Winter Soldier, all the Marvel Movies have ben plucked from two or maybe three forms.) It's all in the execution.

Zach Snyder just cannot execute. He's too busy trying to be artsy and trying to regain the magic of the Dark Knight instead of trying to make a good movie that people will like. Not to mention he took a bigger shit on Superman than Favreau did on the Madarin in Iron Man 3.

First off, I'm glad that the politics lounge is back.

To an extent, but even the most cliche can still be entertaining when it is done right. (I've always been a big proponent of execution over novelty in entertainment) BVS is not one of those examples. It's not so much a bad movie as much as it is inconsistent and has little payoff. With the exception of Batman and maybe the Superman films in the 70's, it seems like DC can't seem to make a great superhero movie. (I'm not counting History of Violence or Road to Perdition as superhero films)

Just stop worrying, and love the bomb.

Oh man that sucks! I bought a house last summer too from a really nice immigrant family. They had bought it in 2012 after the previous owners' adult son trashed the house and ruined the land. Everything inside is brand new and all new hvac and roof. I don't have downspouts, maybe I'll add some and a water reclamation system too.

The land... It's 5 acres and has a great cement slab with basketball hoop and poles for tennis net. But the back 2 acres, it's bad. The son had landscaping equipment and was low on money so he started selling the dirt. There's a 20ft deep, 60ft wide pit in the middle of the back pasture. He went so deep he hit bedrock. It was retaining water so it could have been a giant pond... But when his parents visited and saw what he done they kicked him out and before he left he cracked the bedrock so it's a giant pit with water at the bottom. He also drove his dad's classic fiat and pickup truck into the water at the bottom. His parents bought the place for $170k in 2009. In 2012 it sold for $55,000. I got it for 165 in 2015.

Man if I could get my hands on 200,000 cubic yards of dirt... Maybe one day. But i knew what I was getting so it's not a surprise.

Whomever did the inspection for the sale is a fucking hack. That type of issue should have been easily spotted (without even looking) and the erosion should have been caught. You got screwed by them, not the seller.

Bats vs. Sups was DC trying to cash in on what Marvel started with the Avengers. Marvel gave each hero its own film to explain them better. DC just threw a a bunch of characters in one film, and that is why it did not do as well as it could.

That really sucks. Did you have insurance, or a are you making a lawsuit to recover from this?

You could even try to get the real estate company in trouble for selling you a lemon house.

Personally, I find myself unwilling to even watch live action superhero movies these days unless they review very well. It seems like they shovel out several every year and I hate going to the movies and spending money to see a movie that sucks.

Nobody should waste money on a bad film. That is why I check out Rotten Tomatoes first.

That said, I find that DC's animated movies tend to be good.

DC makes good animated movies. Marvel does not seem to make many animated, they are all about the films these days.

The Disney Channel is loaded with Marvel animated shows. They're actually decent and go way deeper into the comics than the movies would ever dare.

Really excited about going back to the UK to attend a childhood friend's wedding. She's the granddaughter of my family's old nanny/caretaker, and only 4 months older than I am. It's actually funny that she was probably my first ever crush back as a kid...but that's a no-brainer since she hangs around my parent's estate with her gran while her own parents are at work. Literally saw her at our old place every day for a good 6 years.

I am beyond frustrated with my job and my fucking subordinates right now. I'm averaging one call out every day, I've got two people (one of them a fellow supervisor) who have been on vacation all week....the one who got back today decided to call out, somebody was too stupid to fix their time off from last week so they had to be off today. I've got another on leave....what the fuck?! You all mother fucking know if you're scheduled you need to show the fuck up or we don't get done, and if we don't get done, guess who's got two thumbs and gets bitched at by an unsympathetic management team when we can't get the impossible made possible? This guy!

If it was one day, two days, I'd get it. But it's been just about (if not actually) every fucking day for the last two weeks! And it's the same fucking assholes all the time! I just really want to start kicking people out and start over....but that's not realistic either. Sorry guys, I just needed to get that out in a "safe" sort of space where nobody involved in it is liable to read it and my real name isn't attached to it. If you read this far, thanks, if not....that's cool too. I just needed to get it out.

I had over 200 hours of PTO to burn, and am using 40 this week. My husband is always all "OMG WTF take more time off." He's right, but he doesn't get that in order to take days off, I need people to cover my stuff for me. It's like teaching. If you don't have coverage, you can't take off. I keep accumulating it because not only do I keep a stockpile for emergencies, but it's such a pain in the ass to arrange coverage I normally don't bother. Of course, this means I sometimes risk burning out.

Oh yeah I'm the only guy in my department who does what I do, so even when I do take vacation I'm still sending emails, checking in on my team and getting calls from temp agencies who can't handle ccing my bosses on important stuff like invoices and then call my cell

I have to set my off times months in advance so I can make sure no vital court dates (which in my field of law are set out 3 months to 14 months in advance) are set during my off period. If I haven't set the time off, I can't take more than a day or two, and that only works if my hearings are coverable and my other appointments moveable.

My current off time to recover from the transplant is the exception. Even then, I feel guilty knowing that I esentialy abandoned (I do have a good reason) a handful of clients who really were in need of my help. I can only hope my coworkers were able to get them what they needed.

Yeah I've been working my team and myself 6-7 days for way too long. We're down 2 guys and truthfully we need 2 more beyond that. Last week I worked 70 hours but others at work were in the 90s. I know it's stressful and the work is tough physically and mentally because we have so many temps that are sometimes totally brand new and might not speak the same language as my team. When we slow down there will be plenty of time to rest so they're cool with all of the hours now.

My wife works on her own doing home health and she has to really think ahead for vacations because patients may have different needs and length of time to graduate out of therapy. So she essentially has to wind down her work over a few weeks and then has to restart and ramp up when we get back so a vacation can really impact the finances if we don't do it right. (she doesn't get pto so any time away is unpaid)

I guess the moral is if you want some semblance of work-life balance you can't make yourself indispensable

I'd kill to see an R rated Deadpool movie written by one of the actual comic writers and not some "professional writers" who took a cursory glance at a synopsis of a couple of comics and hammer out a script.

I totally agree with you. I am not a fan of different companies making Marvel films. Fox should give X-men back, and Sony should give Spider-man back for good. Let Marvel do what they do best, make content for their characters.

About what you're dealing it, I'm in that same situation, but not as a management position. Today, I got my paycheck and it states that I've worked 58 hours last week! It's not unusual to work six days a week now, because other driver guards keeps calling in sick because they're overworked. We're in a dire situation where we can't keep good people due to low pay and because we're short staffed, we're overworked to death.

Jobs are crazy right now. They either do not play you enough, or they make you do multiple things that are not part of your job, just to save money.

I just hope by then we're past the point where people are out sick, on vacation, or just taking days off via call out because all their abscences got wiped out....or they're fired, I could do with some firings.

Planning to sell my current Upper West Side residence and move to something a bit bigger in the near future. My current place is just one story right now, but thinking of moving myself to a two-story residence in anticipation of my girlfriend's graduation from med school in a year. So if she was to move in, we'd need the space for her stuffs.

Been visiting a few places that are expected to be empty within the next 18 months...and damn. The prices on those places top $10 million! Geez! My GF was in town during her med school's Spring Recess period, and she really likes a place near Gramercy (closer to my workplace), but the tag on the place is giving me some pause, lol.

Vacation /time off is one of the most important things over looked too often by workers.

We got back 10 days ago from Negril, my first time there & as usual Jamaica was great. Really enjoy going to the little boutique hotels. They're not all inclusive ,so you get out in the community for food & drink & entertainment, & As everyone who has ever been there says ...its a great beach .

That trend has been changing over the past 15 years. Millenials have been largely bucking the trend of moving to the suburbs, and instead have been looking for more urban places to live.

There is also a small back to the land trend. Lots of young people are buying farms in rural areas but yeah they're definitely leaving suburbs. I moved from the country to suburbs and I will probably only live in a city center or rural area my next move. Rural for peace and quiet and city for easy access to places and events without a car.
