Right I'm off to bed, Jon's link in his original post is just a continuing loop of bad news, London fire brigade running out of water? Fucking hell, I'll have a look at the news in the morning and see the crater that was once London, anyone in hotspots stay safe and/or punch a rioter, night lads.
I think the next areas could be the northeast of England or Leeds.
Well we were dumb enough to think it was gonna happen.

What are the american networks saying about this? Fox in particular.
Also good night.
Not much because of the economy.

We don't? Btw Don't get offended and yell at me and stuff. But why do you guys have SOOOO many school shootings?
It's like these rioters have been watching V for Vendetta too much.
When it comes to big corporations that's one thing but small business owners shouldn't have to deal with this bullshit.

We don't. This domino effect has literally been the past 2 days spread to 5 different cities nationwide. The scummy youth have just been pushed over the edge and are doing it "just because"

I doubt they've even heard of V for Vendetta seriously Intelligence and these rioters are long since disconnected

The Student Fees March turned riot, yeah.
Guys, let's not make this a thread of USA vs UK or whatever the fuck. Just stick to updates and discussion on the riot.

It's a small country small riots tend to become big because idiots think "I wanna do that to"

Definitely, this has been confirmed from many outlets. It's fucking disgraceful, unnecessary and just opportunistic.

It was, but if you read through the thread, I posted a link with a list of US riots in response to Mercato... can't remember the rest of his name. The US has its fair share, probably along the same scale as the student riots here earlier this year or last year or whatever.
In response to your question, Cootie, nothing has happened on this scale for a very long time. A lot of people posted about the student riots because they are students. That news wasn't very big here for very long. This, on the other hand, will run and run unless something is done about it.

Honestly I'm surprised the US hasn't had more riots in recent years what with how divided the country is, the level of extremism, poor economy, etc. But that's a story for another day.
It's amazing how much these riots have expanded since I last checked in on this thread. Anyone have video of police using force on the protesters or are they still being lenient about that?
At 8/8/11 10:26 PM, Cootie wrote: I guess that is the reason I thought the riots last year were really bad.
They were really bad. But like I said, nothing has happened on this scale for a long long time. I can't think of anything in my lifetime that compares against it, other than maybe the miners riots in the 80s, but they weren't wrecking their or other people's homes. Of course there's been other scuffles over the years, but they pale in comparison to this stuff.
Man, I can't believe this has been going on for nearly two days, and from what I have read, hasn't lost that much fuel. I really hope all the users living near the areas are safe and watching their homes.

Very so. In a time like this, gloating and arguing over stupid things can't be a good. We're all fucking humans and some of our humans are in danger.
Riots are amazing -- not in the sense of being good, but in the sense of shocking, mind boggling. How a group of people can tear down their own domain and kind.
What caused all this crap and what are they trying to accomplish?
I'm going to bed. Realising it's 3:30am and I've been tweeting updates on the Brum riots since about 8:30pm. I'll check this thread tomorrow so PLEASE keep it updated with the latest!

I summed it up in the very first post in this thread.
Damn, I just found out about this right now. London really took a beating.
My girlfriend is in London right now with a friend, sightseeing. Luckly, she's alright, I keep telling her to be safe and stuff, I worry about her. =\
Hopefully they stop this stuff soon.

I assure you, it'll be a riot.
Will it blow me away like the Alabama jokes from a couple months ago?

Whereabouts is she staying?

I don't remember exactly. I have a sheet with her hotel info on it, but it's currently not on me. I know she was visiting the Globe theater today... She leaves to visit Paris for a few days as well on Wednesday. Hopefully she'll be alright until then.

She'd have been okay around there (if it's Shakespeare's Globe she went to). Post the address (or even just the area) of the hotel and how she's travelling to Paris (if it's through the Chunnel, I'm assuming it'd be from Waterloo, which is not far from the theatre) if you want further reassurance from someone here.

Yeah, it was Shakespeare's Globe. I know she had to the the tube to get there though. She said she wasn't in an area where the riots were happening, though I know they were spreading somewhat? And yeah, she's going by train, so it will probably be from there... Thanks for the info :)
The police should be given the ability to use greater force. Typically in these situations, if you cut down the most rambunctious in the crowd with painful, yet decisively non-lethal force, then the crowd will die down. The moment the rioters become hostile the police should be able to start hitting shit, basically. They need to start breaking knees and making arrests. Once they make arrests left and right, then the rioters will figure out they aren't invincible. No mercy should be shown in the justice system for these rioters. All rioters arrested while participating in aggressive actions should have their rights striped and become sub-standard in society. There is no place for these fuckers in the world, but unfortunately, we cannot kill them.

At 8/8/11 11:47 PM, Mark-er wrote: WHY isn't there any type of military or non-lethal force being used at this point?
Many reasons, too long for me to bother listing right now as I plan on going to bed soon, but:
1. Different laws on the use of firearms in action like this here.
2. The police are damned if they do and damned if they don't these days. Cases that should probably be wrapped up in a month drag on for years whilst legal teams sift through the rubble of what's gone on, looking for nuggets of gold that can help bring charges against them. Search "De Menzes" - a case that dragged on for over 3 years.
3. At this moment in time, Parliament is effectively running on a skeleton staff, as most of the people controlling the country take their summer break.
4. The Prime Minister (person, other than the Queen who would only interject if she felt that the decisions taken were not in the public interest) was on holiday (see #3).
5. Dragging senior politicians away from their vacations in situations as per #3 is seen as a last resort, as it is seen to provide weight to what these people are actually doing - as if they have some credible cause, rather than just acts of violence and looting. Had things not escalated and just died down, that wouldn't have been the case.
... lots more reasons that I'm forgetting because I'm tired and am going to bed shortly. Hopefully by the morning, after the politicians have had their crisis meeting, I'll get up and see that they've sent in task forces to handle this stuff.
They didn't fuck around with this amount of bureaucracy back in the day:
seems like londons rioting all the damn time
It's pictures like this that make me sadder about the whole thing. Setting fire to an innocent persons mode of transportation for no actual reason then just to cause destruction and violence, carnage to the city who pays them their handouts.
I don't care if the police or army start raining shots down on the looters involved. Nothing of value would be lost.
2011 has seen a whole lot of chaos. Almost makes you want to believe in that 2012 bull crap. This is insane.
