Good question. Yeah .... I don't recommend my dimensions.

Aim for an aspect ratio of 3:2
For example, 3000 px high x 2000 px wide.

At 7/29/10 08:25 PM, Halvgoeden wrote: I know the rules for Photoshop include no collages, but can I use a texture for some subtle accent from a free texture site if I credit it on the poster?

So long as the texture isn't copyrighted, you're free to use it. It's not necessary to credit them.
Same goes for Fonts.

At 7/29/10 09:25 PM, Halvgoeden wrote: Also, what about filters like Render Clouds?

Yup, feel free. Filters are one of your tools.

At 7/29/10 11:52 PM, Kaptain-Karmel wrote: Can I just submit this with some movie additions?

Sorry Kaptain, but I need to stress Rule #2 again:
2. All art must be ... specifically for this contest. ...
I know you've drawn it, but we want to make sure everybody's working in the same time-frame; and can't just pull out a poster commision they've been working on for a month prior to the contest.

If you pull off something similar, you'll be a very strong contender.
You're also free to reuse characters of your own design: there's nothing stopping you from making a poster for "Professor Mustache 2: tum tiddle te tum te tum"

At 7/30/10 01:55 AM, ModestStephen wrote: should i use this as is? or wait until tomorrow and buy some colored pencils and have a go at it?

Up to you. Save a copy/photocopy and have the option to do both, and submit the version you prefer.
You can do a greyscale poster if you want, too.

Hate to nit-pick over rules, but is it ok if you post that again with your name/username in there somewhere?

Like rule 7 says:
7. The poster MUST contain your username, simply as a precaution that you haven't yoinked an image off of Google.

Hooray for rules

Okay, I'll bite. I love B-movies. However, I have some things on my hands so I'll only make 1, you people tell me which sounds best:

"The Printer"
A monster printer gets bought by the Whittle family and he eats them one by one. With every victim, it scans and prints their horrified faces on a blank sheet of paper.

"It Came From My Abdomen"
A mad scientist named Dr. Durr Diedrich, accidentally meddles with the water supply of an unfortunate little suburban town. This results in the feces of many innocent people coming to life and eating THEM up instead. It's up to 3 brave teenagers to stop the poisoned water from spreading!

Go with this one. It sounds more ridiculous and silly, whereas the other one, while it has a great title, the actual story idea is kind of bland and boring.

Yeah, I thought so, really. The second reason why I asked is because a promotional poster is all that needs to be made, so the title would be prominent. "The Printer" leaves more to interpretation though, so maybe the curiosity it wakes is good enough.

I would definitely go for the second one, especially because it is just about the poster. I think the second one would have a way cooler poster.

@test-object: I think the second idea sounds better, too. And I think it provides a little more space for creativity. Still I could also imagine the first one coming out good.

I have an important question: How do we keep Uwe Boll from stealing the bad movie ideas?

Ok here comes my first sketch. I'm not even sure if I find the time to finish it, but I just have to give it a try.

I'd be happy for any idea what I could add in the blank space right under the title (left of the aliens).

haha i love this one! hows the roles are reversed, and we are attacking the alien home planet :3 awesome

also @ test-object: they are both great ideas, and many possibilities to both, but i imagine the It came from my Abdomen would look kinda like the Headache poster in the art thread. at least thats what im getting :/
however, the 1st option, im getting the most amazingly badass poster pic in my head, and if you are thinking something like i am, the poster will be absolutely badass :3

When brainstorming, the first thing I came up with was "Zombie Cookout". I thought bringing a little bit of the old fashioned suburbia and adding the horror of zombies would be comical. A little zombie boy playing fetch with his dead dog, a decaying father grillin' up some brains, and his wife tanning, (burning rather) in the sun with a beehive haircut. I'd like some feedback, but really I think I may go in another direction, depending on the things you guys say.

like the style is very sloppy in itsself so i think that the way its colored kinda compliments it. but then again... im in it to win it and im really good with colored pencils. compare to this piecei did with colored pencils.

I know the movie part and the poster yeah just draw a B-Movie poster but I don't know are they just "attack of the ______" movies or "it came from __________" or like "sewer rats attacking" like are they all just terrible horror movies or can it be something else like an indie film that's a low budget like "take a road trip and discover yourself" type movie. Idk man this is confusing to me but I want to do something for it.

Read through this.
that should explain it. Ashman is wrong in saying they were all horror movies; in the golden age they were most frequently westerns only later horror became the dominant genre, while movies in other genres might just as well fit the title.

After some debate* we've decided that you can collaborate on a single art piece, since the prize moneys is awarded for the pic. We'll see how this goes for this contest.

*Nae and I shrugged shoulders and said "yeah, whatever".

If you're trying to at least sound Spanish, you have to put the adjective after the subject, as in it should be "El Pedo Monstruo."
