Well, Saddam Hussein had a nuclear weapons attack against some people in 1988 which killed 4,000 people and I don't see a day of mourning for them, not that I'm trying to demean 911, I'm just saying. That wasn't even the main thing he was executed for (it was an attack on another village that killed 148).

Fuck 9/11. It didn't effect me on the day it happened, and it's not effecting me now.

Unfortunately, I had to witness 9/11 in real life, but fortunately not from downtown where it all took place. I lived in Midtown Manhattan at the time, about 4.6 miles north of the WTC, and there was a high level of mass panic on the streets unlike anything else I've ever seen. Also, those smoke clouds formed by the destroyed towers still haven't left my head. I know a few people who died in both the North and South Towers, but none of them were really close to me.

Yea, I was in my 6th grade humanities class when we got the news. They let us out early and when I got home, I had to see it to believe it. I had always wanted to see the Twin Towers one day. Now, that dream will never become a reality.

In fact, the other day my dad and I were watching something about people called Truthers saying that 9/11 is nothing more than a big government conspiracy and bullshit along those lines. In my honest opinion, I still say we should've rebuilt the Twin Towers because that would've shown Osama tat you can hurt us, but we will never succumb to your scare tactics.

May those who died that fateful day 8 years ago Rest In Peace.

Shut the fuck up Britain.

Yes, and doing the same thing back is REALLY mature.

It was tragic, but shit happens. When you come to realise that people die in worse ways daily, you'll realise that you can't go on grieving about the same thing over and over simply because you're putting yourself, and others down by doing this stuff.

I don't mean to offend anyone in any way, but really, the past is over. The actions are said and done, and we can't go back in time to change or alter that in anyway.

If non-americans don't have "a moment of silence", I can understand. However if you live in or around New York or so, it's only fitting that you do.

Hear hear. Even if you're not a native New Yorker, it's only fitting that you have a moment of silence anyway. Hell, every moment of silence after the Pledge Of Allegiance in middle school and high school, I always let my thoughts and prayers out to those who died on 9/11 and our brave troops out in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Never forget the ending of the napoleon wars, the great nordic war, WW2 or the victims of any fucking war and terrorist attack ever.
2000 people died in 911? Who gives a shit really? If you live in New York or know someone that died I understand but otherwise it's completely pointless. People starve to death daily and you mourn that people died a relatively quick death, after having lived a good life. Oh, but of course they are from your country and you they're much more worth than some African.

Look, I'm just saying, we forgot it.
Also, this day lead us into a war, and it lead us into the world we live in today, the future of the world in which we live in had been changed completely in a single day.

Tragedy happens everyday. An estimate of 250,000 to 300,000 deaths occur everyday. 9/11 happened 8 years ago. Worst tragedies have happened since then. Its time to get over 9/11.

You can't get over the fact that the entire world's fate was changed one that day, I think 9/11 should be expanded to mourn the many who've died in Iraq and Afghanistan, be them civilian or soldiers.

Good point, but this is a Tsunami we're talking about. Sure it was tragic, but taking the lives of men and women, who have done nothing wrong, is different and most people would find it more tragic.

So the tsunami victims weren't innocent then, only the 9/11 victims were because only American lives matter right?

The world's fate? We were fucked before 9/11. Its not like 9/11 is whats going to cause the end of us. There are a thousand of things that could happen right now that would kill every single living thing on Earth.
And seriously, when the 2004 Tsunami occurred, 250,000 people died, and we got over it in what? A month?
Only 3,000 people died on 9/11, and we're still talking about it. I hear more about 9/11 than the War in Iraq, and that is pretty fucking sad.

birthdays today are celebrating it like they would celebrate it if it was yesterday, last year we had school pictures on 9/11, this year I'm expecting nothing canceled, I don't see any memorials on T.V., the entire Yahoo front page no longer has a giant memorial, even though they did that when Obama was president, only two of my over 300 facebook friends wrote "never forget 9/11" as their status, the people no longer care.

It's a sad day when the lives of many are lost but forgotten, so today, is in fact, a sad day.

Wait what that again?
The thing with the towers and plane?
Right! Ahhhh......good times, good times.....

I agree with my mom. I'm tired of 9/11. And now its a national holiday, where our social studies teachers will make the amount of additional time we spend being charitable worth our grade point average. Joy.

After the first two years or so after she is raped, everyone feels so sorry for her. This is about right.
It was 8 years ago and people still act like it was just a few days ago. It's also not the worst thing that has ever happened. What about WWII a lot more people died and in worse ways than in 9/ll. I had a friend who died in there too, but I don't go around saying "Ohh why doesn't everyone come say the feel sorry it was so sad. blah blah blah."

So frank-the-hedgehog you have won the game with your post.

I'm overall alienated from a lot of you, I didn't lost anyone that I'm aware of. I had some family who were in New York at the time, that's as close as I'll ever get to it.

In 9th grade, they showed us a video of people getting flung from the Towers. I'm like a rock, I don't cry easy unless its a personal conflict, but I felt like an arrow had lodged itself in my heart when I saw a girl from my class named Erica actually break down and tear while the video played, I didn't ask her if she had lost anyone but she was UPSET. As were dozens of others. That kind of thing makes me feel for this day...

But the excessive nature of this event is beginning to aggravate me. Censorship and utter removal of LESS THAN OBSCURE, VAGUE, IF ALMOST NOT COMPLETELY INVISIBLE "references" to this so-called incident and the like.

We censor like its a freaking sport. Editing everything we don't like in our lives like it was a bad dream. I've always been told that things like Slavery, the Revolution, the Holocaust, and the like can never be forgotten because they were important, they were gritty and disconcerting but we shouldn't stagger at them and remove ourselves, but learn from them.

What do you think America is doing with 9/11, learning or retreating from it?

50 years from now no will care about 9/11. What about the U.S.'s last home attack? Pearl Habor, little more than 50 years ago. Can anyone tell me the date of that day? Didn't think so. How about how many people died? No googling.
