I made a new custom brush today!
Its diamonds, like you see in the bottom right cornor, I used it to make this, I named it "For the Love of God".

Now; if you dont get it, dont worry, just google "for the love of god".

i quite like it, it give the piece an impressionist look to it where you've used the smaller brush size

Thanks dude, though Im nowhere near where I`d like to be.

Ehm...? I`d like to help you out, but youll have to redefine your question a bit...
Do you mean the colors or the "squarishness" or what...

But also figuring out the color scheme.

Custom brush I believe.

And for schemes and ideas you can
go here.

Or... you can pick a colour you like, paste its hex value (#000000 and beyond) and paste it in Google, a few search results will give you the colours that go with it.
Illustrator has a 'Color Guide' which offers the same functionality.

its custom brushes all around, take a look at that picture below.
On the left you see those two black squares? that is my brush tip. Then I open up the brush settings menu (visible on the right) and give it an angle jitter, so that it randomly rotates the brush tip. I also use pressure sensitivity on the alpha, which gives you those lines you see in the middle..

colors are just experimenting.... First thing I did was take five bright contrasting colors, and made a pallete.
Then I draw the entire rhino in purple (you can still see some purple underneath his horns) and just layer your other colors over that.
Finally I took a small standard round brush (with size jitter, but that doesnt really matter) to add some final touches. (lines around the eye, the nozzle,mouth...)

About that, I don't really like those. They don't fit in with the rest of the pic.
Like they're unerased remains of lineart, I think subtle shading would work mucn better.

yeah, you`re right. I didnt use lineart for it, but perhaps it should have been a bit more subtle... anyways, the image looks better with them than without them.

I didnt want to oversmoothify it, cause if you work really smooth in one certain area, youre going to have to apply that same level of smooth in the rest of the picture..

color lovers is a brilliant site, although I rarely use it to actually find colors...
I generally use it for inspiration, just browse through the swatches, and then you see a certain colorcombo and it makes you think "Hey, I`m gonna draw an apple".

anyways, Ray charles didnt go down so well, 1 hour...
Art portal link

I find this new flow I`m in really enlightening.... It really motivates me to do more art.

It used to be It took me 8 hours to finish a drawing... whereas these thing take an hour max... and I cant say the result is that much worse, just really different.
I think it also has to do with the fact that I used to work on drawings for such a long time that I`d get bored with them by the time they were finished...

yeah... it also took my 4 times as long... the bmk thing was just a quick scetch because I didnt want to go to bed yet.

Reference?

yep
didnt have it side by side... in another window, so I had to switch to and fro...I dont want to rely too much on the reference. I`d rather look at some of the features in the reference and make the actual drawing from my own knowledge of how faces work...
I dont know if anyone would advise this way to go about it or anything... thats just how I did it for ray and thelonious... and the rhino btw

I made a funny!
this one is called"I`d walk a mile for a Camel". Which is a reference to the identic slogan for Camel cigarettes.
The joke is consists of multiple layers.
1] The picture shows an actual camel, not the cigarette. This gives the suggestion that the camel would walk a mile to see another camel.
2] The Camel is smoking a pipe instead of cigarettes.
3] Camels walk up to 25 miles a day, so walking one mile wouldnt be that much for a Camel. Considering this, one can see the true sarcasm hidden in the camels statement. The camel is saying I do not care for Camel cigarettes, I prefer my pipe.
