I like this idea. PG is likely to be the only one who can implement this. With everything that's going on with NG it might not be very high on the priority list. It doesn't hurt to ask though, so I will. =)

I asked for this already 5 years ago with the first medal that was removed after I joined this page. This will never happen. That is the reason why I was so happy about MGS adding Newgrounds. The medals there stay forever.

I also asked for it years ago, so I know how you feel. We are trying to work on a NewGrounds solution to fix this issue, once and for all.

Generally there isn't a 'type of game' that gets deleted. It's when a medal doesn't work or when it's 50+ points for a trivial task.

I notice there's this one Donkey Kong game some people have medals for, but if you click to go to the game you get an Angry Faic page telling you the game no longer exists. I believe the game was pulled because it was too blatant a copy of Donkey Kong?

Well obviously none of those medals are obtainable by anyone who doesn't already have them. It seems like a game like that should be first on the chopping block for removing medals since you literally get an Angry Faic error page and there's no possible way to play the game or earn the medals.

I'm glad you mentioned that issue.
If you check my earlier posts in broken medals thread you will notice that I posted information about many games like these. There are 3 categories of them: games removed by authors, games removed by Moderators and a weird type, when you get info that the game has been deleted. It is probably because it was not made unable to access from NG, but completely removed from NG. For some reason in these 3 cases the system did not remove the medals as well.

I remember that when I started posting info about these games, @Nijsse removed 2 or 3 sets of medals like these, but for some reason stopped after a very short time and I am very curious why?
I was always saying that those medals should be removed because they are building an unfair advantage for players that are longer on Newgrounds.

This is 100% true. Players get the medals, and than nobody else can. It makes it really unfair to reach the top when others have medals you can not earn.

Well, I haven't found it to be an issue with games the author removes. In fact I've had medals go missing (very difficult game of which I had full medals) and came to find out it was because the author voluntarily removed the game. So it seems if the author removes the game the medals get removed and that's not an issue on unobtainable medals remaining.

But I believe with that Donkey Kong game it was moderators that removed it and not the author. So I think the issue perhaps exists in cases where moderators remove a game. Then if you click on a medal to go to the game you are greeted with Angry Faic.

A quick example: Mo' Mentum, removed by author:

And a proof that medals from this game are still present in the system, Nijsse's medal wall, page 182:
http://nijsse.newgrounds.com/stats/medals?page=182

You can play the second Mo' Mentum on the list (worth 355 points), but not the first one (worth 380 points, that nobody will be able to get).

Well ideally I would prefer that they not remove games. Or at least have a stricter vetting process for which games are allowed to have medals in the first place.

Because it rightly is annoying when you worked hard to get medals and then they're not there anymore. But it's equally annoying when you can't get medals at all because the game doesn't exist (or at least you don't have access to it). So the lesser of two evils is removing the medals if no one can obtain them anymore.

There's also the cases where games are just coded so poorly you can't get medals because literally the game is broken, but that's a different issue. Again some kind of vetting process for who can even put medals in their games may help. It's just super annoying when you try multiple browsers and you still can't get the game to work correctly.

MGS?

MetaGamerScore = a page that tries to unite all achievements in the world into one statistic. Because of the massive amount of data it is impossible for one person to unlock every single one making it not necessary to remove them. They are just marked as unobtainable, but you can still view your old achievements. The good thing for NG was that a few people noticed easy achievements here and the number of new medal hunters increased a bit.

Nice find! Super simple to connect accounts too, no potential privacy concerns with required user credentials to connect with separate sites either (which seems to mean users could easily abuse the system by summing up stats from profiles that aren't theirs hmm). Good knowing about.

There is absolutely no potential privacy concern with Facebook claiming any name.

An idiot just took Nijsses account and added it on MGS. He is already reported. It is unbelievable how stupid someone can be expecting that this should work.^^ Some people could really need an IQ increasing potion like in an RPG.

Awesome site, it's exactly what I needed as an achievement addict. Here's my profile, let's be friends :D http://metagamerscore.com/profile/7211

See my news post with medal hunting links and tools. I made a program NGMedals that finds your statistics and unearned medals.

There is also a browser script.

By the way, there is a music band called Swedish House Mafia ;-)

Good to know. :) Hah, yeah, so I've heard! They're apparently much more known abroad than they are here though. Just like Swedish Fish. It's weird how different cultural associations you can get to Sweden outside it.

One more off topic post if you don't mind, just because I think this is kind of a big deal.

At 4/29/16 09:10 AM, Syrreal wrote: An idiot just took Nijsses account and added it on MGS. He is already reported. It is unbelievable how stupid someone can be expecting that this should work.^^ Some people could really need an IQ increasing potion like in an RPG.

Thanks for reporting. It's been 2 days and nothing has been done about it. Is there anything I can do? People trying to take credit for my 'gaming achievements' is one thing, but someone pretending to be me on another website...ugh.

I don't think that primal_r visits the page every single day. And as far as I know there is no other admin or staff member who can remove this. It is at least reported and every fake account was removed so far. I linked to your post here. That is enough proof.
