Deaf Monkey Games
OK, this has been bugging me for a while now, so I was wondering if any of you had an explanation:

Since I started hanging around this site a couple of years ago, I have been interested in (among other things) the Flash games, as they are a nice way to shake off the exhaustion of a stressful work day. As with most similar things, when you play tons of games, you start noticing some recurring game groups and sponsors. For example, I've always associated Armor Games with 100% quality.

However, ever since I have first encountered them, I associate Crazy Monkey Games with a complete lack of hearing, due to that goddamn high-pitched bell-like sound they use in their logo animation. (most recent example at the start of Thing-Thing Arena 3).

Am I the only one that rushes to turn off the sound that exact same moment before their logo, or are there other people out there that find it extremely annoying and/or aggressive? And, if so, why the hell don't they do something about it?

They've been around for years, they must have realized that the sound is slightly painful.

(massive understatement)

Come on down to Springfield MO and party with me this weekend!

Maybe we can get a lil NG meet going. =D

Hehe, you don't exactly need to ask for permission, seeing that this isn't an actual club, but it's nice of you to ask so politely. ;D

Welcome aboard, dude!

Inspirations

I've always had this question for other musicians. Who or what inspired you to become a musician?

I guess I'll answer first.
My inspirations came from Nintendo and Capcom. As a kid playing games, I would always listen to the music playing. At times, I would play a game just to listen to the music lol. Now that I have a keyboard, I can now play and remix all my favorite themes, and even play original music written by me.

What about you?

It started when i was i little kid. We had a keyboard and sometimes i played on it, trying to recreate melodies that i heard, or just improvising.
When i was i little older a friend of mine introduced me to FL Studio. He was pretty good and i really wanted to make awesome music too. But i didn't understand a thing from FL Studio and after a while i stopped trying, but the program was still on my PC.
So sometimes i tried to make something again, but i still didn't get it and i never thought of looking up a tutorial or getting some help.
About a year ago i finally found out how FL Studio works and i (finally) started to make music. After a while i submitted my first song here on NG. I knew that it wasn't good, but i just tried to hold on and get better.
Now i've come to a stage where i can say that all that effort i put in my music wasn't a waste of time. It was all worth it.

New computer moniters!

Hey, I just bought two LG flatron 22" moniters for my computer. It should make multitasking and music making a whole lot easier. Besides, now I don't have to borrow my brother's moniter anymore. Right now, I'm writing an essay for Uni and browsing wikipedia for information at the same time. My computer set up is fukken sweet!

New computer moniters!

Lucky D: I produce on a 15" laptop. But it gets the job done ^__^ I would much rather have a good pair of monitors (speakers) than dual screens, besides I'd want to get a desktop computer first before I'd ever do that.

Oh, yeah, now I remember that thread... Hell, that was some weird discussion back there. Didn't really think that you' d seriously use that sig or it's variants, though. XD

Video games = Lack of inspiration?
Seriously, lately, I have realized that as soon as I install some fancy new game and start playing it, my musical productivity drops by like 50%. Sure, sometimes I actually draw inspiration from the game, but most of the time it simply distracts me from making music. Anyone else have this problem, or am I the only one with the weird game obsession? :/

Video games = Lack of inspiration

Lol, I have the same game obsession. I really don't see it as a lack of inspiration for me. It's really more like side-tracking XD. Playing a new game, it side-tracks me into learning to play the music from that game. Rather than focusing on my original works, I'm focusing on the VG music instead. :/

Response to The Audio Forum Lounge 2009-03-18 19:17:07

Video Games = Lack of Inspiration?

I would have to say that the reverse happened to me. Once I really started making music, I stopped playing video games pretty much. I haven't even touched one in months. The only thing I use my PSP for is surfing the internet now lol :P

But the funny thing is that videogame music drove me to make my own music, so it's weird that I don't even look at them anymore. Oh well, I guess that's how the bud burns...

Video Games = Lack of Inspiration?

Not really, I started playing Spore recently and it's made me want to make ambient music again... one of these days. Maybe something flash friendly.

I've got a Yamaha Audio Gram 3, a Korg Kaossilator, a Boss Dr-3 drum machine, A pair of Denon AH D1001 head phones and a Piece Of Shit Casio LK 90 that sounds like a really shitty analog synth when I feed it through the Audio gram 3 interface. Thats four different keyboard companies working together :).

and naturally FL Studio demo to capture/edit all the sounds. But the Audio Gram came with a copy of Cubase which I simply can not stand.
What I like the best about it is its all quite small and practical to take elswhere if a band wants to use my services.

I made my first song with the gear and posted on the site. I like the clarity and I really love my new Kaossilator it sounds so cool.

:)
