This was originally written on 9 April, the 9th day of this year's spring run of 21 Days of VGM. The prompt was "Harvest," and was meant to cover tracks specifically influenced by, or written in the style of, Harvest Moon music. I personally have never played Harvest Moon, nor do I ever intend to, so looking for music that I could be reasonably influenced by was quite the struggle for me. I wanted a relatively breezy track, something that I could feasibly play keys on in a short span of time, as the whole point of 21 Days of VGM was that I was racing against the clock.

Ultimately I found the autumn theme from Harvest Moon DS, link below, and I wrote in the same vein as that autumn theme. The track's a bit sloppy, but I wanted to iron it out as quickly as possible that night, and I added a bit of a DS touch by cutting off the lower end.

I've never played this game, but this little piece of music now is one of my favorites! Note:This is better than the original!

I've never played Harvest Moon but I really enjoy this piece :)

Troisnyx responds:

Thank you ♥️ TBH, I've never played Harvest Moon either. All I did was find a track whose style felt right with me.

I think this is really nice! I haven't played Harvest Moon either, but I think you could put this music in probably any kind of farming game it's sounds really relaxing. I found yours is a little bit more on the melancholic side compared to the original reference. I think the melancholic feel made it more distinguished from the original's style/feel so this way it became a bit more unique too so I think it was a good choice. What was the (mallet(?)) instrument that plays in the background? It rings nice and makes it feel a little more retro sounding but I can't quite identify the instrument's timbre. Is is something from the Fruity LSD MIDI thingy?

Troisnyx responds:

That, if I remember correctly, was a soundfont -- the Touhou SF2 (which is not a carbon copy of the instruments ZUN uses, but which only has a portion of them), which has some sounds from a Panasonic keyboard I used to have access to. There's a sound patch in that SF2 called "Crystal," which sounds like a cross between a vibraphone and one of those 8-bit chip sounds from the Nintendo Entertainment System, all with heavy reverb. I think that was the sound I used.

Thanks for the kind words, and I'm glad you enjoyed it <3
