This particular track is most certainly a turning point in all aspects relative to tracks you have composed. Very respectable to the source material on top of being a bop. You definitely made it to the train and came in clutch!

This remix was a request made for another fan project, with the only stipulation being that it had to sound western. So, I decided to make it a fusion with Drum ‘n Bass! I always love the challenge of creating themes with music, it works the brain a little, makes you think of which instruments to use to emulate an environment, and which instruments go together. In this case, I would use trumpets, harmonicas, acoustic guitars, and pianos, some of which enhanced with other synths for a more prominent sound. Also played around with bending and vibrato for a more unique sound.
Tee Lopes did such a great job with the original. Very jazzy, very fancy. Just my style. I had a jazz background growing up, playing piano all through high school. It was really cool to be able to utilize all that knowledge I’ve accumulated throughout my life into this one particular remix. Sometimes it took a lot of thought in order to be unique and yet stay based to the original at the same time. It’s a beautiful thing to be able to improvise in situations like that because sometimes the end result ends up being better than once imagined. Lot of unusual chords that I don’t often get a chance to use. It’s always easier if you plan it ahead of time. It was actually real easy to get together once things started flowing.
I hope you guys enjoy this track as much as I enjoyed making it, I had a blast with this! All honest comments are greatly appreciated! Thank you all for peeping this remix!
LYRICS:
The train is departing
I don’t know where it heads
Only time can tell, and if all goes well
We can put our doubts to bed
But all I know is that what’s coming
Will be our toughest fight to date
And I know we’re more than ready
But is this destiny or fate
Destiny or fate (x2)
And I know we’re more than ready
But is this destiny or fate

Thanks for that! You've really been listening hard, and that means so much to me. As time went on, as I get closer to achieving my long-term dream, I get more motivation to do a remix right. It helps when you know that certain people are waiting to hear it. Like with "Frozen In Despair", it was another lesson in attention to detail
Wow... Not only are you still around, I knew I was right to check out every single track I missed out on since what, 2009? Fair warning, this is going to be a long post. Only just came back on Newgrounds, and I've been on a binge, listening to everything you've made since those years.
Reading the description for each track in order has been like reading a story as well as listening to good music. Sounds like you've gone through some insane things in your life, but if I can be personal for a minute, it's really comforting to know that you're back and that you're still making music, better than ever before. You're even better at singing now! Frozen in Despair was an instant download and favorite for me!
More to the point of this particular track, it matters little what category it's from or that it's not exactly by-the-book DnB with Amen Breaks and the same 3 samples. Your description warned it'd be more of a fusion of styles, and that's exactly what we got. But really, what matters is, is it good?
I'll go straight to the point: Yes. Yes. A thousand times yes. It absolutely captures the essence of Mirage Saloon, the lyrics are on point, I almost want to listen to this more than Tee Lopes' original.
You were always one of the greats on Newgrounds Audio for me, and having the audio proof of your gradual and continual improvements - both as a person and as a musician - is, for lack of a better way to put it, INSPIRING.
I know you don't do requests, but... again, if I can be personal for a second there, all that's missing from my very personal point of view, is for you to one day perhaps, revisit Sonic Spinball, maybe see what you can do with Toxic Rave with today's experience and skill. Why specifically this track? Well, it's ten years old now, ten years ago this was part of my regular if not daily listening, and I still pop it on from time to time ever since. It was the PaulStetich sound - back when that was still your handle, like I'd ever forget.
All in all... it's good to be back on Newgrounds, and it's good to see, or rather, hear you again! Whatever you're gonna work on next, I'll be there to listen to it.
It's not often a review like this has me in tears. It's so great to know that you've been around before and that you remember all this! I don't even know what to say, this whole thing was really touching. Welcome back to Newgrounds, and thank you for your support!
Life is such a weird trip. lot of ups and downs, obstacles, things don't always go to plan. I've always believed deeply that everything happens for a reason. I've only ever wanted to chase all my dreams in life, but ever since my music return in 2016, I feel like I belong here more than anywhere else. I've gotten a new perspective on everything in the past few years. I'm sure you can tell that by my new genre focus and more spirited vocals (also because I got no parents telling me to keep it down. I love being in my 30's XD).
Thing is, I don't typically take requests unless I get paid for them at this point, but for someone whose actually been around, and left a review that's just more than motivating to me, I'm sure I can revisit Toxic Cave at some point, or some level from Spinball, I don't think I'd be able to best my top rated track of all time XD. I've actually been making quite a few advances lately with my music, now writing music for Sonic Legacy/Sonic Paradox, and I'm taking huge strides to one day write music for Sonic Team. My ultimate goal.
I'm currently doing a remix of Open Your Heart, my 100th track spectacular, it's taking a while but I've got some huge plans with it. Special guests, real guitars, really complex mixing. I am absolutely having a blast with it, and I hope it goes over well. I'm glad you showed up when you did. That's good timing. I hope you stick around for a while more. Thank you so much for the review! This really made my day!
I dislike DNB in general, but its okay i guess.
It's not a genre for everyone but I'm glad you enjoyed it still. Thanks for that!
As much as i really loved this song, i fail to see the drum&bass here. (apart maybe from the drum pattern)
I really liked it tho, it was groovy, very jazzy even a bit of funk.
Hey, thank you for your honesty! I treasure reviews like this because it's what you truly feel, and I really respect that.
There are so many varieties of a single genre, and for this one I did have to be a little more specific with the instrument selections. I didn't use as many synths this time as I usually do, but sometimes when you're going for a certain sound, in this case I was going for a more western approach, you don't have as much moving room for other cool synth instruments. But it can still work. One of my biggest inspirations for this song was a piece by Netsky called "Tequila Limonada" where he infuses DnB with a Latin style. There was hardly any synth there either, mainly actual instruments. I actually notice Netsky does that a lot with his tracks. Anyway, point being, that there's always such a variety to any genre, and not all tastes are gonna match up. But I do understand what you mean. It's different, even from what I'm used to XD
Thank you very much for the review! I'm glad you liked it nonetheless :D
