The Ocean Path

You look up and see the sun dancing on the surface of the water; ahead of you is the underwater passage you discovered and have been following for a while. As you push yourself off one of the walls, a school of fish scatters and escapes upwards into the sunlit water..

This is an entry I made for April's Chips Compo, in conjunction with making a painting in acrylic to accompany it:

This is really beautiful! Check you out with all those awesome libraries! I love the soundscape you've created in this song and of course your choice of plugins and libraries is nice.

They're designed to be some of the most realistic on the market, but I think your track could definitely benefit with some more techniques to make the digital composition as instrumentally realistic as possible. One particular part that stands out for me is the string part at 0:45 (viola/violin?) - the individual notes all sound exactly the same volume and strength. Varying the dynamics of the individual notes, even slightly, will make it sound much more like a natural performance. If you imagine a string player bowing the notes, as the arm moves from right to left along the string, the force they use for a part might be very similar but never exactly the same for each note. The same with pressing the keys of a piano.

Other than that, the track is really interesting and very sweet. I love the vox! Keep making lovely music.

Followed!

Thank you!
And oops, you caught me at my laziest - I usually don't forget to do that lately, especially with the more pronounced bits, but here it is, in full glory xD Guilty as charged haha. To my defense, I've been hellishly busy lately and trying to keep up with a lot of matters swirling about my head. So while I polished the other elements, I left the staccatos desiring a bit more :/ D'oh! I'll do my best to keep this in mind - people *do* notice! ;P

In all seriousness, glad you enjoyed this one :) And thanks for the follow! :D

This was pretty great! I love the feeling of relaxation and relief it gives me. Very nice work!

siteml responds:

Thank you! I seem to specialize in music that is either relaxing or epic (and sometimes both? XD). I always gear my music writing towards what I will enjoy, but it always gives me a thrill and touches me personally when my pieces resonate with others :)

A genuinely beautiful piece. Do you have professional experience, or training by any chance?

siteml responds:

Thank you! :)
As far as professional experience or training goes, I have absolutely none - I'm mostly self-taught (other than some basic sheet music reading in grade school, and some guitar playing taught by parents) - but this has been a hobby of mine for well over 20 years now. I've noticed especially in the last couple of years that I've been improving quite rapidly, though ... so there's always hope on the professional experience front ;)

Wow! I really liked this piece. The very first notes made me immediately feel like I was exploring some place that was all at once serene, beautiful, and almost alien. I like how the song crescendos into a vox melody that drives the song forward, giving it momentum, without ruining the relaxed flow of the rest of the song.

siteml responds:

Thank you, I'm glad to hear you liked it so much :)

Relaxing, feels like I'm underwater. Great job!

siteml responds:

Thanks! :)
