That's right, folks. It's Quarterfinals time!

In this podcast I cover where we are now in the Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch, what comes next, and how we're slowly but surely nearing the end of the road.

It would clearly be a mistake to count anyone out, and absolutely anything can happen in this crazy contest. Only eight competitors remain.

What will happen?

Who will claim the victory?

Will I ever be able to stop mixing my metaphors?

...Stay tuned to find out!

Once again, that was a nice podcast. I think the first song was a perfect choice for background music.

ChronoNomad responds:

Awesome, thanks for the quick review! Yeah, Finn's Round of 32 track was definitely a good fit. Just the right level of energy, I think. Nice and positive. :)

Great to hear the podcast! I always enjoy these :) As usual, great voice, and FinnMK's music in the background was a nice touch!

@TaintedLogic -- I always pronounced it like Mack-Gorilla, but a lot of people seem to read it as "Em-Cee Gorilla" or "Mick Gorilla" like how Chrono said it. I really don't mind! You can call me Dan if that's easier. I see that Chrono mentioned this in his reply to you and yeah we did talk about it (a few people have asked for some reason).

ChronoNomad responds:

I know that you must be pretty busy with your Quarterfinals track and such, so thanks a bunch for taking the time to review my humble podcast! Glad to hear that you enjoyed listening to me ramble on about the NGADM yet again. :D

I've been taking all previous comments into consideration, so adding something big and exciting right from the start seems like the way to go, which is what brought me to Finn's magical air balloon of lavenderness. I'd really like to show all you talented musicians some love in the same way, but unless I make like an hour-long podcast, that's probably not going to be feasible...

So you say it like "Mack-Gorilla?" Just like Ewan MacGregor or MacGyver, but without the vowel. That I didn't know, but I'll certainly keep it in mind going forward! I think folks usually want to have a keen grasp of what someone's name, or in this case pseudonym, sounds like. Regardless of whether they'll ever actually say it out loud or not.

Welp, thanks again! Can't wait to hear what you and your fellow combatants come up with this round.

Thanks for giving a round of hands with your shoutout!
This thing really has moved along fast! I almost can't believe how quickly time goes by :O
Good thing you're documenting the competition through this podcast, in case anyone misses it ;)

ChronoNomad responds:

Haha, yes--all those hands! Hopefully applauding. Heh.

I know, right? It's gone from being a supremely daunting task in the beginning to something much more manageable, but I find that my free time has also been diminishing, so it all pretty much evens out.

I expect that one day, many years from now, people will come to Newgrounds when it's being run by the descendents of Tom Fulp, merely to explore the intricacies of the 2017 Newgrounds Audio Deathmatch by listening to these podcasts. I mean hey, it could totally happen! :v

Aha! Instantly recognized Finn's piece from last round. The vocals got a little distracting, though. I think it would've been best to ask him to send you a version without the vocals. Thanks again for the shout-out, haha. Well-produced podcast, though. Good balance between the music and talking, despite the distracting vocals. The other piece that pops in at about 4:40 was also a good fit for the podcast. Also, tiny detail: I suspect McGorilla is pronounced "emcee gorilla," but I'm not entirely sure. I'd certainly be curious to see @McGorilla42 clarify this. Regardless, happy to see these podcasts live on! Looking forward to the next round of pieces. ^^

ChronoNomad responds:

Aw, yeah! Well, this continues to be a rather spur of the moment thing, and getting it all nailed down in a single sitting is my goal. That said, just sitting and waiting for a response, let alone any actual music just isn't my style.

Interestingly enough, my initial thought was actually to use Battle Born by bassfiddlejones & joshgawaldomusic, mostly because it has a really nice Audio Deathmatch vibe, but since that's not even available for download and I don't feel like waiting for goodness knows how long for a possible green-light, I figured I'd just move ahead with another amazing track that actually WAS available!

So I took Finn's Lavender Air Balloon track and relegated the volume to what I believe is a very doable 20%. While I know just what you're saying about the vocals being a bit distracting, hey--maybe it will inspire people to listen more than once to get the full effect! Nothing wrong with that.

Oh, and regarding the pronunciation of McGorilla42, I asked him about that over Discord a while back. Rather surprisingly, it's not actually "emcee," which gives him something of an edge when there are already so many folks named MC this and DJ that in the Audio Portal. Fun little factoid.

Thanks again for listening, and I really appreciate your feedback! I personally feel that this is my best podcast yet, but finding that elusive "perfect balance" between talk and music is an ongoing journey. Also really happy to hear that you enjoyed my little podcast filler jam and found it to be a good fit.
