Track 085 // Length: 6:05 // Style: Drum 'n Bass

It’s a remix that I’d always wanted to do but didn’t quite turn out as planned. The major problem with this one was that my computer kept crashing when I was in the middle of making this. It took three attempts and a lot of time. Total time on this one is close to three months, but in reality, it was only three days because I was rushed to get something up once and for all. At least I knew what I had and could recreate it as best as I could to those points, but it could’ve used more work. But it wasn’t bad either. For what it was, this one had the challenge of creating a 5-count song as opposed to the usual 4 or 3 counts. It was crucial that everything was different in every section. Everything from sequence transitions to drum cycles, and still flowed with the different kind of rhythm. I also wanted more of a cinematic feel to it. I got my inspiration for this one my watching the television series, “24”. Something that seemed action-packed. The partially orchestral selection of instruments really helped with that aspect.

Squall could take out Cloud with a simple Renzokuken

Thanks for the listen! Glad you liked it!

I feel like I am in a boss fight with this one. Its good.

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Awesome! Thanks!

Alright so at first i thought that muted rapid highhat was preety cool but after a while it starts really draging out and getting a little annoying. also you dont have enough dynamic variation in you drums and other sounds a lot of it sounds like you have it on fixed velocities which makes it sound pretty dead. also the swooshy lead with the longer attack time is not really my favorite. you could have used something that sounds more like the strings from the original. and everything sounds pretty standard midi tracky. so you could have put a little more life into everything imho.

so overall quite solid but you should work on your sound design skills. I hope i didnt upset you with my sort of critical review. happy music making! :)

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

I'm happy to have a critical review like this. Honestly, others have said in the past that my music sounded dead and I never understood what that meant. So what you're saying is that more variety and velocity adjustments will make a big difference. I can see that . . . Paying attention to details.

Thank you so much for the review. Seriously. I think this is gonna help

Wow ... This is really good.
I like this atmosphere very much!
I am ashamed to speak with my ability,
.. but! The sound of the drum is too loud and the melody is buried.

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Volume adjustment is hard. I felt like louder drums would cause that super dramatic feel I was going for. I'll get it down eventually lol

Thank you very much

Very great intro has that kind of scary vibe...
Drums are well organized, smooth transitions..
Everything in the mix is well suited they fit well with each other
Great job bro!!!

PaulyBFromDa303 responds:

Thank you! Everything worked as planned
