So it happens that I am participating in some Icelandic travel studies... Another opportunity for a "free-play" assignment was presented to me, so I took to producing a song on my laptop (which is not exactly built for music-making, so the minimalism is as much a technical limitation as it is a creative decision). The end result is satisfying for me, as it was made under unusual circumstances. Only two pairs of earphones were used for mixing, so I have less of an idea than normal of what it could sound like on various speaker systems; I did try to reference the bass level from my previous Icelandic song...
So I hope this captures some of the spacious, mysterious, and relaxing feeling of the West Fjords. The difference between this song and the previous one is that now I am definitely sure of the emotional value that Iceland's nature brings, as I can actually say I have been there now (as opposed to before, when I was just assuming what would be in Iceland).
One final note -- I did not bring any external speakers with me on my trip, nor would I consider playing this through my laptop speakers for my peers. It just so happened that we were all presenting our assignments at Hrafnseyri, in a medium sized chapel that had a PA system. So...
...I think it sounded pretty good.
