Well, school's out for me. To celebrate, I sat down with the tracker/modular synth program SunVox and knocked out this in a few hours. It's certainly not a finished piece--mostly, I was just having fun playing around now that I have the time to. But I think there are some solid ideas in here that could be expanded into a full piece, and I'd like to hear what you think.

The trick that kicked off this piece for me was running the percussive sound at the beginning through a chain of echo modules with different delay times, which creates an erratic cloud of echoes. This then became a drone underneath the rest of the piece. The beat is mainly made using SunVox's basic drum synth, although I did include a drum sound of my own.

On the subject, I would really highly recommend SunVox to anyone interested in electronic music. It's freeware, and while there is somewhat of a sharp learning curve at the start, it's pretty versatile once you get the hang of it.
