Nami - By The Sword

A few months back Crabbwalker send me a message asking if I would be interested in doing the score for his animated series called Nami. He told me it would be about samurais and being the samurai-nut that I am I didn't even think twice about it.
This was my first time ever that I scored for an animation and I Hope I did his great animation justice.
I did learn a few things when working on this like how to use Cubase for film composing, Cubase is pretty friendly when it comes to this, never really had any trouble.
Think the hardest part was to spot where there should be music and where not and when it should begin and where it should end. You wouldn't believe how I actually wrote this piece like for instance the intro part was actually the last thing I composed xD sometimes I wonder how other composers would go at it you know? it would be interesting to hear.
Anyway I hope you love this little score I wrote as much as I loved working on it!

Be sure to check out the animation here:

And check out some of Crabbwalkers other work as well :)

Cheers!

Man what an incredible piece! I always get inspiration from you and try to improve myself. You are a very very talented musician mate. I pray all the best to you.

Mattashi responds:

Thanks a lot Emid! This piece was quite different and a challenge since I had to write this for CrabbWalker's animation so I had to make sure it would fit the scenes. This was also my first time scoring for an animation :)

It was awesome working with you, and I look forward for possible future endeavors! By itself it's probably one of the best soundtracks you have done up to date. Amazing work, keep it up!

Mattashi responds:

Thanks man! I had a great time working with you, really glad you asked me to do the score :)

Always hearing great stuff from you man. I'm not really the one for long detailed reviews but I can sure tell you have huge potential in film/media composing! The music for the animation fit pretty nicely for a first time attempt at this kind of stuff!

Mattashi responds:

Thanks man! I'm not that great either at writing detailed reviews but I appreciate any review!

You certainly did do it justice! I watched the animation, and your music added SOO much to the atmosphere!
While this sounds japanese, I also get an arabic at precisely 1:00. I've heard similar things to that going on in examplewise Okami though, so it still holds true to the eastern style.

And yeah, I can't really criticise this at all, as I know how well it fit the animation. It works surprisingly well as a standalone track too!! :D
The intrument choices are splendid, the melodies are nice, and the mixing is good. I love it when you play the guitar, btw! You get such an amazing sound out of it :3

I would go at it just like you probably did; find out what works, and in whatever order, and if it doesn't work, tweak and fix it until it does. Although the process can be smooth, and not, in the end, whatever means you used, it's the end result that matters, and the end result here is great XD

So splendid job once again, dude ;)

Mattashi responds:

Thank you so much for your review Lucid :)
it does sound a bit Arabic indeed at that part you mentioned, CrabbWalker asked me if I could make the soundtrack have Japanese/Oriental and Arabic elements to it.
I'm glad you liked the guitar part :) I'm always not too sure if I can get it to sound alright in the mix since I have to record it myself, samples are usually so much easier to mix xD
Thanks again man!
