Now, you might say "What the, this is not world music?!"
Well, though not entirely traditional, it has much of the vibe (and intruments) that is often evident in Finnish Folk music. So world it is.
This was just a short, fun project I worked on for a while, a few days ago. I don't have time for anything bigger right now, as I'm working on something else ;)
Thanks to @LunacyEcho for helping me decide which mix to use.
Oooo...instruments make it sound like some sort of shadowy tropical evening. XD I like the progression and atmosphere/mood. It loops really well, and I admire your sense of structuring, even in such a short piece. The only downfall of this piece IMO is that it's so short! Funny how you put "winter" in the tags. Makes me think of just the opposite season for some reason...Anyway, keep it up LSD! ;D
Ugh, relistening to this, the tremolo strings stand out waaay too much; dem0lecule was totally right.
I guess this makes you think of the opposite season, as the strings I used are actually pretty warm. The most indicating intrument that this is winter themed, is that bell-ish thingy that plays every measure, and the fact that the harp is a bit colder (but it should be even more cold!) than it would normally be, along with that other violin that's playing softly in the background, which is much colder than the warm strings.
So I totally get what you mean with this sounding tropical as well!
This is pretty short, yeah. Not the shortest one I've made, but certainly not the longest XD
The strength of this piece, imo, is its progressions that seem to almost constantly move upwards, even though it actually loops at one point.
Oh, are you doing reviews in order? If you're going to review many of the other pieces I've uploaded, that's really cool!
Thanks for this one as well :D
I'll reply to your PM relatively soon, hopefully by the end of this week, but I have a concert, so you know XD
Not too shabby-- it's a nice little loop. sounds quite smooth and interesting to listen to. How you end each phrase with these chord choices really drives the piece. For example, when you end and return to the beginning, it merely sounds like the music is moving in an ascending motion. Very nice
Thanks!
As always, you are amazing at noticing all the important things.
The whole point of the loop is to make it seem as the composition is just constantly modulated upwards, as it gives the illusion of progression. And to make the "illusion" even more solid, I did pretty much the same thing every 4 measures :)
Nice little loop Lucid :)
I do wish it was a bit longer but there isn't anything repetitive in those 35 seconds, lots of melody and chord variation so that's good!
I'm really eager to see what your working on, when will you show us a glimpse of your project? :3
Thanks Mattashi!
Yeah, well. As soon as I am finished with what I'm working on, I'll focus on a few longer tracks as well. Who knows, I might just make something in between anyway, as I'm easily distracted when I feel inspireed XD
"...lots of melody and chord variation so that's good!"
=> My specialty.
"I'm really eager to see what your working on, when will you show us a glimpse of your project? :3"
=> I'm eager too! Alas, I cannot show anything until I am finished. I'm actually vorking on two entirely separate things. At first, there's the game I'm making. Progress has been made. I still suspect it might take a month or so before it's ready for release, even if it's pretty simple. I want to make sure that it's actually good :D
Other than that, on the side I'm working on a Collab with an awesome Newgrounds musician ;)
I have no idea when it will be finished either though, sorry to say.
I, on the other hand, am really excited to see the animation Crabbwalker is working on, as well as hearing your music in it!!! XD
