HEY GUYS!

If these songs seem to be coming in rapid fire succession its primarily because I've been tinkering with several for the last 3-4 months and I only recently started forcing myself to finish them, starting with the closest to being done. So there may still be a couple I could finish soon.

This one was interesting cause I specifically challenged myself to write it in a more jazzy manner, no continuous key, dynamic rhythm. It still came out more patterned than I'd like which I think is one of my biggest flaws making music.

I mastered this today and didn't really monitor it on anything other than my headphones to try and see if that would be good enough. I also tried listening mostly with my eyes closed to see if that would help me pay more attention to all the sounds. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, but please tell me of any flaws its got.

Also the radio ad samples was basically thought up and thrown in yesterday. I felt the song had an older feel due to some of the instrumentation and the composition, so I thought I'd throw those in to give it something unique and interesting throughout the song. Don't look for some deeper, pretentious meaning, there really isn't one lol.

THANKS AND PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINIONS!

I'm not artsy enough to provide meaningful feedback in either direction. But I like it. Well done.

mixed really well but it's far from jazzy, I think what this is lacking most is soul. you need to give way more thaught to stuff like your velocities for every note timing and making things sound real! your track gives me the feel of a rather uninspiring midi loop. try to work on your sounddesign or just use what's always worked in this genre rhodes, live bass and live drums for example. I dont particularly like the sound you came up with here but it reminded me of the newer pokemon soundtracks.

so if you go for jazz go full on or I'm not really satisfied. you mixed it well though!

3.5/5

Free2Play responds:

Haha thanks! I'm still iffy about the mix, I think specifically because it doesn't work as jazz.

This song was a weird departure from what I usually do (more dance, electronic, hip-hopish stuff), and I completely agree with you. There's a lot of weaknesses to music production I have, and not noticing little details like velocities of specific notes, or doing very different styles of writing. At this point I still really can only write basic pop things, nothing too complex. And I agree this track really wasn't that interesting, but I knew I wanted to get this out to learn something so mission accomplished! lol.

If you have any recommendations on how to improve the finer details of composition and writing different styles I would love to hear it. I think the best mark of a musician is understanding and being able to control how they make music. I've certainly gained more, but I'm still no where near where I want to be.

Thanks alot, very helpful review!

vary interesting
mixed well but feels vary random to me o.o
vary grovey tho wish i could give better feed back but this is not quite my style . but i can tell there was quite a bit of time put in to this n.n
well done

Free2Play responds:

Yeah I don't think its quite anyone's style other than sort of mine. It's not my favorite song lol. I really just wanted to get this one out because it was practically finished, but there wasn't much else I could do to make it better lol. I still hoped I could learn a bit from it though, and I had another song to mix and master which is one of my favorite parts of music.
