Featuring a good friend of mine on the cello and me on guitar and vocals. This was a bit of a one-take deal, no multiple tracks or anything fancy like that, so it could be better in sound quality and such, but what I'm more concerned with right now are the actual lyrics and instrumentation and such. Feedback would be wonderful. :)
Lyrics:
So come on, let's start this race
Everybody line up in some random place
It doesn't matter because life, it's just not fair
People start from everywhere
On your marks, get set, the gun
A pregnant pause and then you crawl, then walk, then run
As unseen forces push you down the slope
Sends you sprinting 'cross the plains
But don't be deluded
Your muscles and your size and your momentum
Can't be marks of success
If you don't try your best
And don't lose perspective
The wisest men have moments where they're just as dumb
Or awkward as you
They just hide it from view
As you scan the weathered land
You find the others run much faster than you can
And pass you, smugly speaking of God's will
That they had a steeper hill
Then a leg-less man you pass
Under a tree, he writes a book, sits on the grass
He's built a fire from their sticks and stones
A destiny his own
*musical interlude*
It's your first and final match
And if up to them you just can't seem to catch
Then know the coach has different goals for each of you
He just wants you to improve
So to win you must admit
Your lack of certainty but then, you still commit
To what you can and in the end, uphold
All your cards and never fold
Our conscience is constant
But nothing else was given in the same amount or way
To two people
Makes it hard to cry evil
They say stupid is as stupid does
But to judge a person's worth you'd need to know of
Every step that he's trod
That's why there's God
That's why there's God
That's why there's God
