A rock song with potentially bad mixing.

Pretty good ^^

This is a good rock, song, thanks for requesting it so that we can have a break from all of the Dance/Trance songs that get submitted to the Review Request Club. Anyway, in general this is alright, sure it has bad mixing, but it's a pretty nice song which is enjoyable too listen to. Keep up the good work :).

The melodies were actually very impressive, especially for a rock song. The main ariff was good, and there were some other nice sounding riffs such as the one at 0:42 and the riff at 1:11 was really cool. All in all the riffs were great, and there were quite a few riffs throughout the song too, so this didn't get too boring. Good job on the riffs ^^.

The sound quality, unfortunately, is very bad. It really ruins this submission. The guitars sound muddy and hard to understand properly, and the drums aren't amazing quality either. Mixing and EQing could be a tad bit better too. Still, the guitar didn't sound absolutely horrible, and I suppose it was alright to listen to it playing such great riffs :).

The transitions are great, except some drum transitions, such as when you moved from a beat with loads of fast cymbals to a slower and emptier beat, which was much too abrupt, and almost random. Some transitions from riff to riff could use some work, such as at 0:23, but all in all, the transitions were fine. Pretty good job on the transitions :D.

The structure, for a Rock song like this, is actually very good. I definitely won't complain on the structure. The variety was also alright, but some riffs were repeated too many times. I'd suggest adding a few more subtle changes to your riffs, so that they won't be so predictable.

The intro wasn't too good; maybe you could go for the simple but effective way by starting it really softly with a few soft plucks on the guitar, and then build up to main song. The ending is abrupt, but that can easily be fixed by slowing everything down till you go to the final note (a ritardando if you know music). Also, the ending note could have been more powerful (maybe you could add a crash to it).

The drums are impressive, and although some drum transtitions could definitely use some work, the drums complimented the guitar really well, and the beats were great. I think that the kick could be more powerful though, and the snare is too weak. Cymbals and tom-tom drums were fine. By the way, the drum roll you did at 0:50 was epic. Good job with the drums; as the other reviewers said, the drums were great.

In general, this is an impressive rock song, but the fact that its sound quality is so bad, mixing could use work, and your repeated the same riffs a little too much, topped up with some nitpicks I mentioned, ruin the song a little. Still, keep up the great work, I hope to hear more unique tracks from you! ^^

5/5 - Man, this got 0-bombed... X(

Sawdust responds:

Okay, thanks for that. Although there is little I can do in terms of mixing, because I like keeping the level of distortion intact, as in keep everything at this level of muddiness and such, but I suppose some remixing is in order then. Probably to the drums too. They're way too round and artificial sounding, I'd suppose I'd do something about that, too.

Thanks soooo much, I'm real glad you liked it, you'll be hearing more from my rock collection soon enough! :)

Rock, FINALLY!

Ha, finally, a rock song, my speciality!! I think this song was super cool, but the guitar got a little too repetitive, the riff wasn't so great, but it was kind of creative... The drums made a nice backsound, it fitted very well together with the guitar, it made a great combo.

The guitar sound was pretty cool, the drums made a nice sound, and the riff was pretty well made, since it fits with the song's context, but it repeated too much, it'd be way better if you variated a little bit, adding more slow parts, and adding faster parts right after the slow one... Just as like Iron Maiden's awesome songs.

Also, the lenght is too short, it seems that it has 1 minute, since it repeats too much... I suggest you to hear Led Zeppelin's songs, they have quality and the lenght is great, also, it'd be an awesome inspiration for you...

The song's quality wasn't so good, but you made a good job, just make the songs a bit longer, using more effects and sounds, and then the song'll be great... Keep it up, man!

Sawdust responds:

Yeah, I'll probably get more melodies in there. Probably make the next song way longer with less repetitiveness. Anyway, thanks!

Sound quality leaves a little to be desired, but it's not overly detrimental. Like Fro, I kinda expected this to be heavier than it was based on the introduction, but it's fine as it is. You've got some nice-sounding riffs, but I think the mixing did let you down because the guitars do sound a little muddy together, and there's some transitions, like one near the start where you went from one guitar to a pretty fast drum beat and guitars which could have had a smoother transition than it did.

What's being played is nice, but it's lacking a really solid breakdown or a more coherent verse-chorus structure. Or even just a few more drum fills here and there to keep the beat up a little more. If it was possible, I'd say try and find a vocalist for this, because it's the kind of song that would really suit some lyrics and a decent singer to record them, just to emphasise that feel a little more.

Nice track, overall. Could do with a remix, and maybe a rerecord of some of the guitar parts just to make them a little more discernable from eachother, but in general it's pretty cool. Side note; the RRC doesn't get enough rock or metal tracks, at all. Feel more than free to request reviews on more of yours, if you have them? ;D

Sawdust responds:

Yeah, I could actually just tweak the effects I put on the guitars parts, probably get one to be really sharp, and the other to be bassy? And also do more EQing on it. Yeah. Probably a drum breakdown too.

About the vocals, well, I could probably write the sheet music down for all parts, then when I finally have a band, this will be one of our songs :D

Also yeah, I'll do more requesting then, I have plenty of rock songs in my pile of submissions. Thanks!

Good song

Well, the sound quality is a bit low, but the song still kicks ass. I like the drums here. They have a good sound (despite the overall low sound quality ^^), especially the bass drum sounds pretty good.

The guitar plays some nice stuff as well, but it seems as if it is mixed very far to the right side, the left side seems to be a bit uncared-for. This doesn't sound too good to me.

Sawdust responds:

Well, I had one guitar on the right and one on the left, if I can recall. And I kept the drum in the center as well. Oh well, at least you enjoyed it! Thanks for the review!

Finally, it's not techno or trance...

I listened to this for quite awhile because I was reviewing a piece of art while listening to this. I really couldn't catch anything like bad mixing or really anything that bad for that matter.

I guess the way it started off lead me to think that the song was going to be a bit heavier. It wasn't though, but I felt that having a heavy part somewhere around the middle of the song could have really helped. Something like a break down with both the drums and the guitar.

It sounds really good though and I personally can't find too much if anything wrong with it. I think it's even a good piece to find someone to do vocals to if you had the time to find someone to do something like that. There's a lot of good parts for slightly heavier rock singing and some for the more traditional singing as well.

Sawdust responds:

Thanks for the review! I'll probably focus on a Bonhamesque drum breakdown next time, because arps can only take the heavy so far, amirite?

Anyway I'm glad you enjoyed the song, and I'm happy to break the pace of constant techno/trance songs that you guys tend to get.
