Wicked Aberration

This one would never be published if it wasn't for the Madness day! I figured why not inspire me from madness while practicing some odd atonal stuff! And here it is. I imagine a mind controlling witch with a tentacular head, moving seemingly randomly, but always achieving its objectives, leaving a path of destruction behind. Let me know if this weird composition makes you think of anything!

I don’t typically get into atonal stuff, but I can appreciate how the lack of scale would give you a certain freedom to use the keys in new ways. This chaotic feel is exactly what you were aiming for. Every note feels deliberate, even in the most dissonant sections. Fittingly strange piece for madness day!

Solacitude responds:

It's really because it's madness day I thought this experiment did fit the vibe, or it would stay offline forever! But it makes me want to try again with more complex atonal exercises, it's really hard to not stick to a key!

The chaotic feel is quite profoundly rooted in atonality. I also go for lots of minor seconds, it gives a dramatic flavor. I was wondering how to call that mode, "chromatic minor"? I'm glad you caught the vibe I was going for! Thanks for the review!

Anything atonal & improv'd uploaded to the audio portal immediately gets my attention <3

When I listen through several times, I imagine an almost monochrome, cloudless skies of a sickly light, where the light of the distant stars are almost burning the ground from it's intensity, but where the shadows are so potent that one could drown in how thick they are, even under something as unassuming as the dying trees which are the last bastions of nature within the lands. The single wanderer slowly pushes through the hot grass crunching beneath their feet, while smoke and dust pours off of their skin. Their eyes are just glowing white orbs, while their flesh continues to darken as death seeks to claim one more for it's eternal realm.

Solacitude responds:

I listened while imagining your scenario, I love it!
I'm glad it sparked your imagination like that!
This piece is without any doubt the weirdest I ever made, getting this kind of clear picture is really nice a full horror movie plot could almost come from it! :)
Thanks for sharing how it inspired you! It's awesome!

Oooh spooky... Teh heh heh Is it Halloween already~?

This sounds modernist, almost like a cross between Stravisnky and a nightmare-ified Mozart (yes that is a word!). It has a good use of dissonance. It makes the music sound weird but not terrible.

Great job, Solacitude-san and I am absolutely going to review your other "Wicked" song too!

Solacitude responds:

It sure has a Halloween vibe!
I tried to go as random as possible while trying to keep it musically interesting. It was a pretty weird exercise, and very interesting. It's not as random as it may appear first. I recorded about 30 minutes of weird atonal improvisation and this was the best of it. I'm glad you appreciated!

very dissonant, definitely has an aberrant feel to it. Not my style, but would would be well appreciated by someone with a deeper point of view than I.

Solacitude responds:

My expectation for this thing is either love or hate, probably no in between haha! I really don't expect lots of people to like. It's really experimental, the weirdest I ever recorded probably. Thanks for the review!
