The Last Goodbye - NGADM Round 1

For Newgrounds Audio Death Match Round 1.

I wasn't sure what genre to use, so I just used Fusion since I feel like this is a mixture of trance, rock, ambient, and experimental elements.

At the time I started making this song I had just recently turned in my two weeks notice at my job which I've worked at for over 4 years. I got to work with some really awesome people during that time (shout out to my boy Josh and also Irma Berma, I'm gonna miss you guys the most I think). So NGADM came around and I decided to try to draw inspiration from all the time I've been with that company, 7 years. I often didn't feel like getting out of bed and going to work, thus the lyrics lol. I'm not sure what the future holds for me, but I know music will always be there to help me through whatever is to come...

This is one of my first attempts to record myself playing guitar and to mix it. I'm not a great guitarist, so playing and mixing guitar recordings is something I really need a lot of practice on. I plan on more attempts in the future. :)

I probably spent around 40 hours on making this song. I still need a lot of practice on everything in music production. I've had hearing issues most of this year, but I think I've finally been able to solve that problem, so I plan on getting back into spending more time working on music.

Thanks for listening, and good luck to everyone in Round 1! :)

i'm currently going through all the submissions and this is by far my favorite. you make so many different sounds work really well together, which is quite impressive! this song kept surprising me and i couldn't stop bopping my head to it. the lyrics and backstory for this song made it even better.

but with the positive out of the way, i think it could become even better! generally i'm missing a bit of sub bass throughout the song. the drums are a bit too loud compared to the other components. the music box sound at 1:30 might be a bit too loud as well and could possibly benefit from some reverb. the impacts and crashes are also a bit too loud compared to other things as well. they could possibly also use a bit of reverb but maybe i just love reverb too much.

generally the only issues i could point out here are mixing issues. it flows really well and it's very catchy! really good job!

Wow, thanks, I’m glad you liked it! I agree with you that the drums are too loud. I have a problem with mixing with the volume louder than I should. I’ve been told before that to get a well-balanced mix as far as the levels are concerned, it’s best to listen to your mix at lower volume. I actually find that hard to do when I’m really into a song I’m working on lol, but I will work harder on that in the future. Anyway I believe that may be how the drums ended up louder than they should be. Oh and I love reverb too, but I try to not overdo it because of how quickly it can muddy up the mix. Thanks for all the kind words, and for your detailed review! :)

damn dawggg this piece radiates such an uplifting vibe, so sick!

FateModified responds:

Thanks g! ;)

This is so great! It can get a little repetitive at times which makes the song a little bit more dull, but keep up the good work!

FateModified responds:

Well I drew inspiration from my job which was repetitive and dull, so maybe that’s why it ended up that way lol. Next time I gotta use more than one chord progression for real. Thanks for listening and for the feedback! :)

Cool tune you've got here. Gives me Matrix vibes. I dig it!

FateModified responds:

Thanks :)
