This is great! I also make orchestral music and I'm looking for friends in this genre of music. You got discord? :)
Oh boy, where do I even start to describe this?
This is my first time submitting a song for the Art Inspired Music contest. I wish my submission wasn't last minute, but this is the most ambitious orchestral song I have made to date. I underestimated how long it would take.
Now, about the amazing artwork that started it all:
When I was looking for art in the art portal I wanted to find something that could inspire me to make fantasy/ epic music, because I've wanted to write this genre for a long time. I figured that this contest would be the perfect place to find inspiration to do so. I found Grei's artwork Sea of Clouds and I immediately knew it was perfect. This epic fantasy illustration had a story in it, and I wanted to create the music for that story.
I immediately started composing for it and developed the main "theme" with a celesta. After I had a work in progress of the track I messaged Grei to ask if he'd be okay with me using his art for the contest. Grei was ecstatic, saying (and I quote): "My babies are posted for everyone to see and feel happy. So, if it made you happy, I'm sure [everyone would be happy] too."
At first I was going to treat this as a fun experimental piece, but after talking with Grei I knew this track was about to become my baby... and that it did. This orchestral track features every standard instrument in an orchestra, with strings, brass, woodwind, tuned percussion, and rhythmic percussion. It has synthesizers, samples, and soul. I had a blast piecing this thing together, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
As far as the story of the artwork goes, I wanted to outline the ups and downs of the man standing on top of the mountain. To me, the music is how his voyage goes through the Sea of Clouds. Feel free to let me know what you think happened based off of the music and the artwork!
Edit:
I’ve seen other people list the gear they used to make their songs so I figure I should too:
Symphony series:
Mallet flux:
ProjectSAM’s Free Orchestra:
Single Instruments:
Misc:
