No, really. The gimmick here is that the main lead of this track produces different sounds depending on what notes are being combined, with notes that are closer together producing a more distorted sound, while something that's more harmonically spaced will produce something more pleasant.
Yes, the intro is supposed to sound bad. I don't know what style I was imitating but it was something where the intro would be bad, but suddenly it would change to something smooth or something like that.
Also, if you hadn't noticed, I went quite crazy (for me) with the reverb and the echo.
