A certain anticipated remake of a cult classic Mario video game was coming, so I wanted to draw the fan-favourite Geno to celebrate.

For a change, I wanted to work from a simple prompt like I did with my previous Mario drawing, thinking all of the possibilities with the keyword....cape. It was a general idea for the pose. I also wanted to sorta redesign him, taking notes from both the original and remake, so he'd be easier to draw while still being recognisable.

I went for a "kiddy-like" background, to go with his "real name" letters in the back and the fact he is a wind-up toy. I had a little trouble until I suggested to give it a star-like theme, fitting his status as a Star Guardian entity. I loosely based it off the space age y2k aesthetic except I went with "foil stars" as if it's printed on cards. Though the background turned out VERY experimental, it still fared well in the end.
