This version of Paperinik (PowerDuck) add one of the strongest story/art direction ever.
It was really amazing to see a different style each month applied to the same continuity.
Out of all the crossovers I've seen, why hasn't this one been done as much, or actually done with justice? I guess it's because Paperinik, or PK, or The Duck Avenger is obscure outside of Europe despite having some of the coolest comic artwork I've ever seen. This was loosely based off that scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but what if there was another sci-fi hero battle took place in outer space?
It started off as a simple duel of them in outer space, where I wanted to emphasize the retrofuturistic space age feeling since it was prominent throughout the 1990s decade and even as a sorta-known Y2K aesthetic. But then I realised; what if I took notes from the Sonic VS Shadow battle?! That was when the eureka moment kicked in. But I didn't want to draw them fighting physically but rather using their laser guns to really emphasize that sci-fi vibe, and I took notes from the Sonic X version of the scene.
This art was designed to be viewed upside-down, so the poses are fluid no matter how one rotates the canvas, so it captures the anti-gravity feeling of outer space. It was also my first try at "back arm" poses, where it seemed like the only plausible option to fill in the corner space, that Paperinik's cape did. To capture the upside down feeling better, I flipped the canvas 180 so it doesn't look awkward.
This...didn't turn out exactly as I wanted it in my head because I'm not 100% used to drawing familiar cartoon characters despite having more experience with drawing head and body shapes overall. Maybe I'll revisit the drawing in years' time.

There is no 'up' or 'down', or really any sense of direction in space, so frankly it was a great idea to make the piece invertable like this! Honestly the Duck Dodgers cartoon deserves way more recognition, it had Micheal freaking DORN.
Agreed, and so does Paperinik/PK/Duck Avenger; their PKNA comic book art is so criminally overlooked and cool.
