From the Surface of Mars

Share

This is my fourth and final submission for The Space Collab! I wanted to go a different route for this one and paint from the surface of another planet. So I went and looked at a bunch of pictures of Mars' surface and looked at the colors of the rusty, silvery colored sky. I also included both of Mars' moons in the sky. They are named Phobos and Deimos. I also put Olympus Mons in the distance on the right side of the picture!

Fun facts: Mars' moons are thought to both be captured asteroids! Another fact about the moons, is that the closer moon of the two, Phobos, is either going to collide with Mars, or break up into a ring system in roughly fifty-million years because it moves closer to Mars at a rate of about six feet per Earth century. Another Phobos fact is that it orbits closer to it's planet than any other moon in the solar system, and completes three orbits per Marian day! The highest mountain in the solar system is Olympus Mons, and is on Mars! It is theorized to be a long-dormant volcano. Despite being the tallest mountain we know of, scaling it would not be that difficult, as the slope leading to the peak is actually pretty flat.
