I really enjoyed the prompt for this competition! This is my first public entry into the social media art world, so I hope this makes a good impression! I'm really proud of how this turned out, and I'm excited that this gets to be my first Pinterest art post as well. I wanted to convey the multiple meanings of isolation that I think of in this digital painting. I wanted to show how painful and self-destructive it can be to try to connect with someone in different world and how that wears away at who you are after trying to be something that you're not for so long. I also wanted to show how your circumstances can prevent you from truly being a part of someone else's world (the light beam, in this case). The last form of isolation I wanted to convey was the distance that phones tend to put between people who should be able to connect. We tend to get caught up in the digital world and ignore the people right in front of us. For me, this seems to be the most debilitating form of isolation because other people are responsible for it and there's nothing you can do to escape it. I really enjoyed making this piece, and I hope to make more digital paintings in the future!
