"In ancient days of lit furnaces and adobe houses, there were still many in Dowazh living like they always had. Reserved herders, living by humble temples. Even hunters living in places not yet settled. They either rejected the modernity of the cities, or were simply born in a place where technology was not known. But it only takes a few seconds for a life like this to become incredibly complicated."
"Toburoz's story follows this path. When a military campaign targeted his village during an autumn morning, everyone he knew had vanished. The raid cost him his jaw, and had apparently killed him. But in this moment, the cosmos intervened, and he found himself with an implant from an otherworldly source. He finds it hard to rest after the incident."
Hey there! I didn't forgotten Toburoz's comic. The script (yes I wrote a script for this comic) is finished and to prepare for the drawing, I'm making reference sheets for the characters. I'm starting off with Toburoz. He's the driving force behind the series' main arch; that's why the comic's named after him. I designed him while making this ref, which probably wasn't the best way to go about it, but besides the socks and sandals, I think it looks fine. The main thing I wanted to pin down was his implants, which are the stone looking things on his back. This is the first time I've drawn these on a character, and I'm happy to see I got the alien-ness of them across. For their glow, I chose a deep, magical blue.
I also experimented here! You might notice there's no linework. This isn't the first time I've done lineless art, and I've posted it before, but this is the first time I've used Affinity Designer to make it. It's entirely vector art. I think it turned out great! It doesn't have the giant ink strokes that drove me insane, at least. I could have drawn this with shading and was going to, but I decided not to because this is a reference sheet and I think solid colors would serve that purpose better than shaded ones. I'll absolutely do it when I get the chance tho. Regardless, this was fun to do.
tl;dr - drew a bronze age guy, experimented a little with the art
feel free to use him, just remember I designed him.
