Magnus is was bred with near perfect stats, but abandoned by his trainer who was trying to get a shiny, after being used for breeding. What could be worse? It was in an area where Zangoose are not native, so he was all alone. He gained many scars, but grew to be bigger than the average Zangoose, and thanks to his stats, was also abnormally strong. He also had learned to speak by spying on the local village, much like Meowth of Team Rocket.

Eventually a trainer came from the village to catch him. She had no Pokemon of her own, having waited until her 20’s to start her journey, but she had heard the stories of the incredibly strong Zangoose lurking in the forest. Zangoose made a remark that she would have to use her own hands to take him down. That was exactly her plan. She lost, but Magnus was impressed by her courage and struck a deal. He would go with her under two conditions. 1) They would be equal partners, and he had an equal say in all decisions, and 2) She would gave to continue learning how to fight, and practice with Magnus every day. She agreed.
