The Last Ditch Fleet

(Sorry for the low-res pictures, still waiting on the original images. Posting for archival purposes.)

The "Last Ditch" Fleet was not an original space flotilla within The HSA (Human Sattelite Alliance). It was a rag-tag group of outdated destroyers, first-generation space fighters, and hastily-put together interceptors made of old engines and point defense guns. They were the only ships that either lacked an optimod crew, or that crew could be subjugated easily and replaced with loyalist humans.

Zues-Class Destroyers were the first combat vessels constructed in outer space. Three portions girded at hardpoints made the chassis of the vessel. The Engine is an old Colony-class, built for placing the orbiting habitats that filled terra's starry sky in the first great leap spaceward. The maneuverability package is made of Qual-class engines welded to a fuel access point and pointed in all directions, giving the destroyer a startling amount of movement in all directions. The weapons chassis holds the first portable weaponized mass drivers, in two rows of three on opposite sides of the vessel "Blade" which houses all the computers and ammunition necessary to operate the vessel's weapons and engines in tandem. In emergencies, the hardpoints between each chassis can be detonated allow the vessel to be separated into three separate portions though the weapons chassis is underpowered. Built at an especially early time in the history of naval warfare, the Zues class lacks point defense guns necessary to stave off missiles and as such required an escort of vessels with anti-missile weaponry. The HSA "Billiard Balls" was scheduled to be scrapped and used in the creation of 9th Frontier when the optimod rebellion occurred.

Demeter-Class Space Superiority Fighters were the first ships ever built to take the fighter role in outer space. Meaning to be a testbed for experimental technologies, the Demeter is lightly armed with only a single 50mm cannon. The Demeter makes up for this lack of offensive capabilities with its surprising agility, speed, and armor. Primarily used as a training vessel, the Demeter was rarely in the hands of pilots never mind within reach of optimod paws. The last-ditch fleet managed to acquire a squadron of six of these fighters, though they were assigned to defend the HSA "Billiard Balls" from missiles as they lacked the necessary armaments for frontline combat as well as the hardpoints for attachments.

Scrimshaw Interceptors were, as the name suggests, put together from various parts of spaceships to take the role of a frontline fighter. Though lightly armored, considering its two Qual-class engines strapped to an old landing control chassis for a tug, it's one of the better armed small craft of the Last Ditch Fleet. The PDG on its underside is capable of piercing some of the finest armors at close range. With its low mass, strong engines, and high firepower the Scrimshaw was put in the role of a front line fighter meaning to close in on optimod targets and destroy them in a fly-by. With its low maneuverability, the vessels actually relied on orbiting around the satellites or even planet Terra where combat occurred. Being placed in a dangerous role meant the vessels had a low survivability rating but made up for it in being cheap and reproducible, the PDG being the most expensive part of a fighter made mostly of space tug components.

With The Optimod Rebellion placing the majority of the HSA's space fleet in enemy hands, the Last Ditch Fleet is humankind's last hope of regaining control of Terra's starry sky.
