These guys started out as fakemon, but I recycled and redesigned them.

  The word fledermaus is just the German word for bat, but it literally translates to "flying mouse." 

And thus these guys came to be.^ ^

Capturing the color correctly was a bit tricky for this piece, but editing went super smoothly- even the spine was easy to edit out, and the spine has never been easy to edit out.

The poses could be better, and I need to figure out more colors for these guys as I never made up a palette for them like the other species, but overall I'm quite happy with them. They've come a long way from a rough doodle for a fan comic that never came to be, and I hope you look forward to them in chapters to come.

Element: Storm

 A bat-like spirit creature. Fast and agile flyers. 

Have storm-based powers. Mostly nocturnal. 

Cheekmarks do nothing.

Out of Story Information:

-Flaydermaus is currently one of two spirit creatures created from recycled fakemon designs, the other being struwwelpeter. (For those of you who are curious, it would have been electric/dark.)

- If flaydermaus were an actual bat, it would be a megachiropteran, due to its size (a foot tall), and thus be classified alongside such creatures as flying foxes. The other, smaller bats are classified as microchiroptera, and include all three species of vampire bat, only one of which feeds on mammals.

-Flaydermaus' ears are ridged on the inside, like a real bat's. These ridges help capture sound waves. 

-Unlike many real bats, Flaydermaus does not have a visible nose.

-Although Flaydermaus, like most bats, is nocturnal, there is at least one species of bat that is active during the day.

-Flaydermaus was changed to its current spelling to separate it from the original German word to avoid confusion/search result issues. Extra s, dur instead of der, and z instead of s were all considered, but ultimately rejected in favor of the current name.
