Liminal ghosts go by several names. Melancholy Phantom, Dusk spirits/Dusk ghosts, and Mask Facers. They originate from the Realm of Broken Memories, of which they are the dominant malevolent entities of said world. They have bodies made up of an unknown black substance that absorbs the majority of light that hits it. Dusk spirits have the uncanny ability to shapeshift their bodies as well as slightly change the size of their mask. their bodies can change from being solid, to being liquid, and to being gaseous. They can take on human form (though it is not an exact copy, as its white mask and dark body is a dead giveaway) and will at times take on monstrous forms, sprouting many arms with twisted, bending joints. The most common form they take however is a long, serpent like body with two arms with pointed, talon like claws. Their heads are white face plates which is also made of an unknown material. the faces on these masks are often just holes or slits that make up either an abstract pattern or a very simplistic face.

Melancholy Phantoms are Denizens of the Realm of broken memories, a weird realm of liminal spaces, cloud covered skies, and changing landscapes. They often move with a combination of floating and walking on their claws, sometimes walking on their knuckles. their movements are as if they are walking underwater, swimming in the air while stepping on the ground at times. They have the ability to fly however if they so choose. They have the ability to warp and supernaturally manipulate the environment around them to use it against whoever they target. They cannot use this power outside of the Realm of broken memories however. Their bodies are indestructible, given its shapeshifting abilities. Their only Weakness is their face plate, and even then its very durable against stress or damage. If one manages to pull it off however or destroy it, then the Mask Facer will shoot out its own internal organs from its body and die. Its organs are anchored in another dimension, meaning they never take physical form in the dusk ghost's body. Destroying it's mask is the only way to make their organs Jet out from the orifice where its face plate used to be.

Dusk spirits are Extremely Dangerous entities. They can easily Kill human beings, ripping through flesh and bone like butter. They can also tear holes through armor and destroy weaponry or vehicles. The majority of these beings are hostile to anything, and at a much rarer extent even to each other. It is near impossible to reason with them and nearly all of them love inflicting pain on others. They often enjoy psychologically torturing their victims for a while before killing them. Stalking their prey, watching them from afar, manipulating the environment to confuse them, even sicking other monsters onto the victim to horrify them. Liminal ghosts in the Realm of Broken Memories have never been observed eating so it is unknown what they survive on. These spirits are very intelligent, on par with that of humans, and are capable of speech. Its unknown if they have their own society or social hierarchy within their domain.

Liminal Ghosts have been found in other dimensions as well. Sightings and stories of them have been recorded on Earth, where they are more elusive, however these are often grouped with ghost stories and are often not believable to the mainstream. Very similar spirits live in Starellya, the dimension of infinite islands. Some of these spirits look very similarl to the ones from the realm of broken memories, the major dfference being that Starrelyan spirits have metallic gold masks as opposed to the usual white ones. Despite that however, their is clear evidence that they diverged from them. some of these Starrelya spirits have also evolved to have elemental powers. Some have bodies that can turn into water, some have plant life incorporated into them, while others are made of molten magma. The Mask Facers of Starellya are less hostile and therefor more friendly (varying on individual) to other beings compared to their more dangerous cousins.

It is not known who created these entities, or if they were created by someone or something at all. They are often said to be "unknown to the minds of gods". They are dangerous entities nonetheless and should be avoided at all costs.
