el zocalo(town square) of Mexico city

VIVA MEXICO!!!

and viva newgrounds

this is my other 1/2 of the things i made for pixel day, the other being a chiptune cover of the national anthem of mexico

i made this with picoCAD, its a model of "el zocal", mexico's town square, the place where the aztecs used to live and the heard of tenochtitlan and now mexico city.

making this was an absolute nightmare.

picoCAD is made for small project and can only handle 16 kb projects, this project was 25 kb and the rotation of the model was slowing down, i was really worried that it was gonna crash.

i took a couple shortcuts that would limit the size of the file so that i could add as much as i could

  1. I only used planes, using shapes, especially making vertices and faces that aren't visible still add processing power AND increase file size even if i make them transparent
  2. i cloned planes, i've heard that this makes the file size small although im not sure why, maybe it it helps with compressing since it has to do copies instead of creating new objects??? IDK
  3. making the faces NOT double sided, this made them transparent on one side and it meant that it didn't have to calculate what it had to block when there was a mesh in front of the other

i made the cathedral first which is why it looks the most detailed and after making the building to the right of the cathedral, i got really tired and just made variations of buildings in the pallet and projected it to copy-paste, planes

i wanted to add some more details but i was running out of time, file size, AND ability to manipulate the objects, it was getting really crowded in the isometric views

here's the txt file if you want to play around with it in picoCAD

and if you're curious what the pallet looks like

you can see that i had extra space on the top left, i was gonna add little planes that had single point perspective buildings to cover up the voids in the streets but i was really reaching the file size limit

over all, i am pleased with the result and i hope ya'll enjoy it too

Viva Mexico!!

I am Mexican, and I currently live in Mexico, south of Mexico.
It's rare to find someone who makes the Zócalo of Mexico City in Art Pixel but it looks great :3

I have to use Google Translate To communicate in NewGrounds XDn't
