Reviews for "Mother's Sword - Web Demo"

There is no way to describe this game except No less than Phenomenal, . Considering that one could have this much fun in a demo, I CANNOT wait until the full game. This game is very polished, has no glitches, and has great features such as parry chaining, counter attacking, and a very interesting Idea of a Metroidvania with a sword. The death system also adds that fair bit of challenge to the game. All in all, a great game, and a 10/10 for me, I would like to see the full version of this game because it doing Awesome!

So I'll just give my review for this game that's a demo. So far the game looks pretty good since I'm a fan of the Metriodvania games from one of the first ones like Castlevania Symphony of the Night that I finished first and the other ones on the GBA that I finished on the GBA that was ported on the Xbox One that I got for sale for like 18 euro here in Germany(Good price for 3 classic games by the way). So my review for this game is I like the mechanics used for the game like the use of healing yourself with the red soul meter from hitting enemies and killing them and getting items from different places by playing the way you are used to in different games like this. I was lucky to find one place by accident by just hitting walls and finding a good item to keep me playing through the game demo. I do like the pixel art which I think looks pretty great for a game made in 2024. The enemies are pretty fair and I hope the game in the future gets much better as the game comes out. I rarely play games on Newgrounds because I'm busy with other things like Steam games and other things but this one I feel like could be good or more. I'm not too sure because I barely play indie games that are Metriodvania and Soul-like games. I do like the character's designs that are Medivial related and show a lot of inspiration for other parts of history. The boss was pretty hard for me which was my fault for not going back to prepare myself for the boss. I went back to grinding through places I've already been at before to get more souls and I beat it a second time going back. I will follow your account and Twitter to see how the game goes when I get back to working to buy the game. So far I give the game a 7 or an 8 out of 10. Not gonna give out a full review of the game until it is released on Steam. I hope the game can be improved when it comes out. But so far it's pretty decent from what I've played keep up the good work. : D

This is awesome! The frame stop on the parries is juicy, and the enemies are similar yet diverse. A pause screen would be nice, and customizable controls would help a ton, but aside from that it's everything I'd ever want out of a platformer
Also, to everyone in the comments, the parrying does work. You just have to make sure to do it once the blade is in motion and make sure to read the opponents animations

this is SUCH a compelling demo. huge kudos

Really good game overall. Some criticisms I have: firstly, the controls seem a little awkward (playing with Z, X, S keys) however you can choose which keys go to which action in the settings which largely solves the issue. Secondly, the parry controls seem a little unfinished; I don't mind the parry being difficult to time correctly as that gives the game most of its sense of challenge and difficulty however try to implement that aspect into the combat more as opposed to leaving it up to the players intuition (such as creating some visual ques for the correct timing or a shared time of the enemies attack pattern, all so the player can get better at timing their parries), and the upgrade of counterattacking when you parry doesn't seem to work (I've died several times just trying to pull it off once, haven't managed to - perhaps I am genuinely just that bad though I feel since I beat the game that's unlikely). Besides those two issues, the graphics were really nice, it was decently challenging, the enemies were all unique and varied enough to keep it interesting, the levelling up system was engaging, and the combat was a lot of fun. Good job!
