I really like this game! It reminded me a lot of Donkey Kong 3 on arcades and i love it! I have one small issue with the controls. You cannot switch directions while firing. I think this should be in because it's pretty annoying to constantly stop shooting when you want to switch between left and right, plus you can switch between horizontal and vertical firing at will, without letting go of the fire button, so i image it would't be hard to add.

not a fan of the controls. either adopt a z/x control scheme or don't. don't have part of your controls (firing) be tied to a z/x design and another intimately related part (jumping) be completely different (space bar)
