Reviews for "Through (#gbjam 4 version)"

Wow, really nice idea. The sound is loud and jarring, and should at least have a mute option, but the graphics style didn't bother me. In fact, the line-style really fits the dimension hopping motif. From a geometric perspective, this was pretty cool. I had trouble actually envisioning what each new screen was going to look like, but you've made the path through every level pretty clear. Once we start having multiple options, it will get difficult. I envision a lot of running in circles.

Make sure you have a "return to title" menu at the end of your game. Otherwise, the game just sits there on "to be continued..." and the player has to reload the entire page if they want to play again.

It seems like this is a very good engine for a game that could be very challenging. I admit, I couldn't really envision a complete path through most (any?) levels until I really embarked and thought "meh, let's just see if this works", which is a good sign of how challenging of a puzzler this could be. But like a couple of the previous reviews said, the level designs so far have been straightforward enough that there hasn't been a whole lot of puzzle-solving necessary and I've been able to just run through and eventually find the way out. Future levels could definitely use some branching paths with a lot of dead ends for players who don't know what they're doing.

And since I'm a "musician" after all, it would be nice to use a longer and better loop for the background muzak.

My apologies, but I haven't done enough drugs to play this game properly.

All jokes aside, this is a great concept with better execution. I thought it would end up being a rip-off of Shift but it ends up differentiating itself a bit in the gameplay, namely the dimension changes. Novel! I just think it's a bit lacking in sound (I had to mute the game as it hurt my ears), and level design seemed a bit linear.

Great job!

thank you for having calming color schemes and giving me the ability to progress from level to level with only the space bar. these are two things that i look for in games

also other things i look for are eggs but i am not sure if there are eggs in this game or not because i havent finished it yet

are there eggs?

goshki responds:

Sorry, no eggs in this version. :/

This is an excellent idea, and the retro graphics are adorable, but the jarring sound and lack of a mute button make it frustrating to play. As well as this, there is a lack of any new ideas past the wall-shifting, and the level design is quite random. Another thing that should be added to a finished version would be a more effective tutorial.
